I started developing a 2d tactics game a little while ago, after wanting to create it in an isometric perspective but not being brave enough. I think i'm going to finally make an attempt at switching to an isometric perspective now and videos like this are incredibly helpful. Thanks for posting 😊

When talking isometric I always remember the g\old Stronghold Crusader which at least to me, to this day, looks really good considering how old it is. Also after learning or stuff programming and gamedev I am pretty much in awe how they made it isometric with ability to easily switch camera sides, can't even imagine the math behind it.

you basically have to render the sprites from the lowest Z level (as in html z index, higher z is higher level) so that higher sprites are rendered latest and "obscure" the sprites under them

one remark - linear perspective doesn't have anything to do with atmosphere. It is optical effect caused bu the fact that we have an actual lenses in our eyes that allow us to see all around instead just a 2 square cm spot in front of us. Atmospheric perspective is the other thing - it just make s things to look foggy on the distance because of the thick layer of air between a viewer and the object.

One correction: Perspective has nothing to do with the atmosphere - something that can be easily tested by looking at pictures of various objects in space (say, from Earth's orbit for example)... It is however a consequence of the geometry shared by all optical systems, which in turn stems from the practicality of having the sensing surface much smaller than the capture angle, thus requiring the incident light rays to be focused on the sensor.

btw perspective has nothing to do with the atmosphere. It's the consequence of the angles between points that are close to you being larger than the angles between points that are far from you Or as one page on Wikipedia says "distant objects subtend smaller visual angles than near objects"

great video, although explaining the isometric coordinates wouldn't be that hard and it wouldn't be that hard to do from scratch (even for a beginner, as long as they know how to create a 2D array and other grids, which I assume they do if they're looking up stuff about isometric grids.) isometricX = (x - y); isometricY = (x + y) / 2; ______________________
