Too many things to unpack here, too many half truths and out right lies. Regarding Tigrigna and Amharic, Tigrigna is not the only language of Eritrea, there are 8 other languages. So there is no reason why Tigrigna has to be the language of Eritrea anymore than Amharic. Also, Tigrigna was not banned, and it was the official language of Tigray under Haile Selassie. Amharic was the language of education in Ethiopia until 6th grade only. The university entrance exams were in ENGLISH and still are. After the dergue came to power, Amharic was no longer an exam requirement for university. Eritreans and Tigreans had an advantage over Oromos because Tigrigna was closer to Amharic. The largest student group at Addis Ababa University in the 1970s were Eritreans, Amharic did not hold them back. Ethiopia is a multilingual country, which is why TPLF still kept Amharic as the national language, just like Atse Yohannes had done. Having said all the above, language issues should have been handled more carefully by Haile Sellassie and Dergue.
