Hello Neeraj, Thank you for such elaborate explanation on the topics. You have made me understand stuff, that I could not from the book :) I have a small question though on "Decision Coverage". While counting decision coverage we take "if's + 1". So, does that mean we exclude "elseif"?? READ X IF X==10 THEN PRINT("YES") ELSEIF X == 20 THEN PRINT("NO") ELSE PRINT("MAYBE") END What would be the DC here.. ?? Will it be 2(if+1) or 3(if+elseif+1)
@TMSQUARETECH
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Akshat!! Yes your consideration is write, the elseif will be included as this is condition as well and will create a branch further. So the answer will 3 (if + elseif +1). Note : I didn't include elseif in my tutorial as ISTQB no longer ask for these example of else if.

As you explained in un-nested condition regardless of IF the coverage would be 2 but there is a pseudocode from other source 8. Consider the following pseudo code: 1 Begin 2 Read Time 3 If Time < 12 Then 4 Print(Time, “am”) 5 Endif 6 If Time > 12 Then 7 Print(Time -12, “pm”) 8 Endif 9 If Time = 12 Then 10 Print (Time, “noon”) 11 Endif 12 End How many test cases are needed to achieve 100 per cent decision coverage? (5p). Motivate your answer. a. 1 b. 2 c. 3 d. 4 The correct answer is c. The three decisions are in sequence and the conditions are all mutually exclusive (if any one is true the others must be false). Hence a test case that makes the first decision true will make the second and third decisions false and so on. So test case 1 (say Time = 6) would exercise the path True, False, False, test case 2 (say Time = 15) would exercise the path False, True, False. Test case 3 would have to be Time = 12. This combination achieves 100 per cent decision coverage because each decision has been exercised through its true and its false outcomes This is bit confusing why the decision coverage = 3 its should be 2 right ?

In Example 5, why branch "A to B" is considered a decision? Every time you reach A, you will be forced to execute B, no decision to make. I understand that a decision is when you can choose one path or another, but in that case (Example 5), from A there are no decision to make, it always goes to B?

Precisely...I'm confused myself as I've watched multiple videos on Decision Testing where a decision is regarded as a decision point with 2 (Boolean = True or False) possible "decision outcomes". Which means moving from one statement to the next with no other outcome is not a decision, it's a forced path. In this case Decision Coverage only covers the decision outcomes tested divided by the total number of decision outcomes in the flowchart. Therefore, in Example 5 there is a total number of 3 decision points which is B,D and G. Any other path is forced and not a decision. This makes 6 decision outcomes. The 2 test cases covers 4 out of the 6 decision outcomes (Test 1: A to B = Not a decision, B to C = 1 Decision Outcome. Test 2: A to B once again not a decision where going to D to G to H = 3 Decision Outcomes), so ...4 DO's which is 66% Decision Coverage. I only go into so much detail since I see TM SQUARE has not addressed this issue in the below comments over the 3 years this video has been available.
