Glad the project went without a glitch. Cory, you mentioned you're trying to get Dean to work for the Co-Op. He kind of already does, the Co-Op makes videos of him and his fish room and he sells his fish to the Co-Op. He just doesn't spend "working" hours at the store. He's behind the scenes. LOL

This is quite a bit late, but there are heavy duty retractable castors that normally store up to rest on the normal legs of the rack, and you can press it down to engage it to move a heavy rack like this.

In the research I’ve found in setting up a fish room is give yourself enough room to get behind stuff in case you ever need to. I guess a room is called a room so you have room to do stuff, i don’t know lol.

The reason company’s say don’t bring it back to where you bought it is usually a good thing. It means they would rather have their own customer service handle it because they know Home Depot is trash and will accept a return because they sold them the wrong fittings etc. not. Alot of companies do this at big box stores.

siphon tip: No need to suck on the hose. Submerge the hose in the tank. Put your thumb over the end so it doesn't drain. Bring that end to the bucket below the tank level. Release your thumb. Gravity starts the siphon for you. I do that for my frog tank because that water probably has enough bacteria in the drainage layer to kill me.

Sounds like a real mess if it bursts, which happens quite often. Replacing drywall and floors is one thing but i couldnt imagine replacing ceilings which is why most have their water heaters on main floor or basement if they have one (less damage if it busts) First ive ever heard of them being on top floors or roofs, thanks for sharing

As a plumber, I know you’re going to regret replacing that heater. The new ones have a flammable vapor resistance system that tends to get clogged frequently with dust, spiderwebs, anything. That one didn’t appear to be leaking, so a simple thermalcouple would’ve got it going most likely. It’s possible it was a gas valve, but that rarely goes bad. All things considered, this is actually easier than a few of the jobs I’ve had to do when dealing with water heaters, but there definitely would’ve been bleeps required.

We have to maintain quick access to our water heater (in garage) because if the wind gusts hit over 20-30 mph, then the pilot light blows out, and we have to clamber in to relight it. Like, several times a year. *right royal pain* Now, I know Dean would probably rip it out and replace with a better unit that doesn't let that happen.
