As many of you may know, there has been a real push for the revival of Te Reo Maori in New Zealand.
The next step forward from here would be to introduce the language into the school system to help our next generations to become successful bilinguals.
Of course, with this came a massive national debate. 1 in 3 New Zealanders agree with this objective. However what about the other 2 out of 3? Why do they reject this notion?
In this video, I explain my opinion about "Why Te Reo Maori Should be Introduced into the School Curriculum"
There are two reasons for me:
a) It will solidify our unique national identity, and
b) It will drive NZ to officially become a bilingual nation
Following on from point B, I further explain why being a bilingual is an advantage and great benefit to our tamariki for the future.
It is time for NZ to embrace the second half of our national identity, and in doing so move forward to keep up with the globalised world.
Note: many sections of this video have been taken from TVNZ's Te Karere reports (as shown with their logo). I do not claim the video clips as my own
