Aussie farmer here, thanks for putting this up, interesting to see different countries harvesting. I used to have the 1644 Case, with the 8.1L Cummins. I was getting it ready for harvest and changed the coolant. Took it for a burn up the road to heat the engine oil ready for an oil change, nekminnit, the low coolant level gauge sounded, and that very similar water pump to yours there had it’s seal let go. Most of my brand new coolant was gone. Also just a comment about your broken barley straw. I had a barley crop one year that looked like that, and from memory we had an unusually hot spell during spring which I blamed for it. I ended up needing to use crop lifters, to try and get more off the ground and into the front.

My uncle ran Upper Farm at Taynton, succeeding his father, until the seventies. He too shared out, or maybe rented, his combine. The family had farmed out at Ladbarrow too in earlier times and I have a photo of them harvesting with horse drawn machinery. Have a letter from my Dad, who was visiting, to his mother from back in the 1930’s saying that he was being compelled to stay longer than planned to help with the harvest. For me - wonderful memories of childhood holidays on the farm. All gone now.

Absolutely . . .bridge the perceptual disconnect between picking the finished product items from the supermarket shelves and where it actually comes from . . . in this case under the strap-line "Where daddy's liquid refreshment comes from". Reminds me of the BBC "The Farming Programming" from the '60s . . 40 - mins to an hour on a Sunday, around lunchtime . . . hmmm ! Modern farming is, by this account pretty intense and high tempo hard work . . . so not for the rural idyll romantic dreamers.

Good barley crop Harry and some good quality straw to sell. I don’t know what rain you had, but despite thunderstorms forecast for Saturday and Sunday, we, here in Wiltshire, had virtually nothing to measure. Getting a little fed up with forecasts recently. Always promising rain or sunshine, but usually get the complete opposite. Anyway, that’s a very good start, so hopefully the rest will be as good. As for the pre harvest service. Isn't it strange nothing breaks down in the shed or on the shelf, take it out or off and all hell breaks loose. Great to see the neighbour thing, gathering in the harvest. My uncle taught us kids about that and on holidays to his N. Wales farm my cousin and I would walk across to the next farm and milk their cow just to give them more time to harvest. The taste of which was amazing.
