@@AP02112 It is true though, private sellers don't have to do background checks, although you can't knowingly sell to someone that has expressed an intention to do something illegal or you suspect are felons or somehow forbidden from owning a firearm, and whenever you go to gun shows it is old white guys at the booths and they do ask WAAAY too much money for their guns when you can buy them online for half the price. Of course most honest people know that its virtually unheard of for criminals/murderers to use rifles as they can't be easily concealed. Most murders are done with "weak" low caliber pistols, and criminals like to use stolen guns not ones legally purchased because that leaves a paper trail right back to the murderer. Lastly, Mexico has a WAAAAY higher murder rate than the US, and they have the strictest gun laws of almost any country and have since before Texas was even a state as the Spanish didn't want the citizens armed and rebelling.

@@BoopSnoot Firsty, depending on the state, even if you are a private seller you must perform the transaction using an authorized FFL(a dealer), who performs the background check. On top of that, as you mentioned, the seller cannot sell a firearm to prohibited persons(see the ATF’s webpage regarding private firearm sales). All of these background checks are meaningless however, because criminals and people who intend on committing crimes won’t go through the legal means of acquiring one in the first place.

She had no real idea, got a bit of backlash challenge and went to do it. She was shown some (through the glass), had to wait a day because the Fed Firearms certified clerk had gone home that day. Next day he ran her std check and she was denied because she had moved to a new apartment that year and not updated her licence and other documents. Just that was enough. I love it when people talk about this “gun show loophole” but clearly have never bought a gun at a gun show or probably ever. I’ve bought most my guns at a gun show and can tell you that I’ve spent hours of my life sitting in a chair waiting for a background check to go through. The loophole by the way wasn’t even a loophole. You used to, as a private seller, be able to sell guns without a background check which most states now have laws requiring private sales to be done through a FFL in order to do the background check. Also as a quick note pretty much all gun shows now require booths that are selling firearms (because there are plenty of booths that sell other stuff) to have a Federal Firearms License (FFL).

Actually they proved who was wrong. It's the anti gun people who are wrong. He thought he could saunter in and buy a gun, but couldn't because of a background check. He proved that pulling a gun on a guy in a room full of guns wasn't a good idea. There's nothing to contest about the debate. The pro gun people are right, and the anti gun people are dumb. If you need one fact to prove to you that anti gun is wrong, it's that if people couldn't buy guns, they'd just make their own, and it's easier than ever to make guns. The only reason why you don't see homemade guns everywhere is because it's easier to buy them instead. But even in places where guns are banned, people still use guns. There's gun robberies and killings all the time in the UK, but gun ownership is pretty much illegal outside of antiques for display, which have to be rendered inoperable to even have. There is no way to ever effectively ban guns. All it means is criminals are the only ones with guns, making the rest of the populace even less safe. So there you have it, the entire anti gun movement shutdown in a single paragraph. Guns also don't stop people from killing people, because the murder rate in the UK is almost the same as the US. In fact, the biggest mass killings in history, even recent history, have been done with knives, not guns. In China there was a mass stabbing at a train station where something like 100+ people were killed, and even more injured, by a small group of people with knives that just ran through the crowds stabbing people.

No Dee, that wasn't a Bazooka, that was an AT-4 launcher tube. Just the tube, which is inert and harmless. After the AT-4 has been fired, it cannot be reloaded. So the harmless tubes are often kept as trophies, since they are legal to own.

@ThelcarusWing

Well at the point where someone is threatening a life with a rifle, trigger discipline is excused because you probably fully intend to shoot the individual if they try anything. The main idea behind trigger discipline is to avoid accidentally firing at a target you are not intending to shoot. As for the sideways revolver, yeah you have a point.

well done ! honestly though, that "private seller " would be in deep sh*t with the BATF for so many guns and selling on a regular basis. They actually scout those shows out looking for people like him . And I have never met a seller even at a gun show that did not ask for a NICS check for a modern firearm; like an AR or pistol. The only people that sell without them are usually selling old relics .

I have to say, one thing this scene gets right is the ridiculous prices at gun shows. I've been to several gun shows, and I've literally never bought a gun at any of them, because the prices are always higher than you would find at a regular gunshop. As such, I usually just end up buying things like gun books or manuals, maybe some gun cleaning kits as well, but no actual guns. I just don't get why the prices at gun shows are always above market value. Why would I pay more for guns at a gun show when I could just go to a gun shop at any of day the week for a better deal?

Except there’s no private sellers inside gun shows. If you buy a gun in a gun show you still go through all the background checks. If you do a private sale in a state that allows it then you better well know who you’re selling to because if you sell it to a prohibited person knowingly or unknowingly you go directly to jail.

18 U.S. Code § 922 (d) "It shall be unlawful for any person to sell or otherwise dispose of any firearm or ammunition to any person knowing or having reasonable cause to believe that such person-" and then there's a list of people you can't legally sell a gun to. The burden of proof is on them to prove that you actually did know (or had reasonable cause to believe) they were a prohibited person, as you can't be expected to prove a negative. (Which is why you can either be found guilty or not guilty as opposed to guilty or innocent - because failure to demonstrate guilt does not necessitate innocence, nor does failure to demonstrate innocence necessitate guilt.) It basically works the same as receiving stolen property. They have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you had reasonable cause to believe that the property was stolen or that the person you sold a firearm to was a prohibited person.

To be fair it's not just his fault, it's primarily the fault of the armourer and the first AD. He was definitely in the wrong and is the person who pulled the trigger at the end of the day but in the film industry, we have dozens of safety steps and checks that are supposed to be performed before the gun is even handed to the actor and none of those were done. The first AD grabbed a random gun off of the cart (a huge violation of rules, the armourer should never leave the weapons cart unattended), the AD brought it to set and called "cold gun" (safe gun) and handed it to Baldwin and it resulted in someone's death. It was a massive breakdown of the system that is in place to prevent the very thing that happened and was a tragedy. Though Baldwin's guilt in the situation is also due to the fact that as a producer of the film, he is, at the very least indirectly responsible for the hiring of incompetent employees.

The laws for gun shows are the same as they are anywhere else. Professional firearms dealers who operate a licensed business have to perform background checks. Private citizens selling from their personal collection do not (unless the particular state requires it). There's nothing you can legally do at a gun show that you can't do anywhere else.

I love comedy that is mature enough to rib both sides of an issue. More people laugh and you can base jokes on the failures of both ideas, as done here. It's the reason Amy Schumer and James Getfeld both suck. It's cringey even if you agree with them because it's constant jabs at one viewpoint, comedy is mixed - like real life.

Let me add this. Most gun gun shows charge money for a table or spot to sell. $500 in my city when they have the shows. If you sell any volume at all, the ATF agents will get you for dealing without a license. Here is what the gunshow "loophole" really is. You take your rifle to the local gun show in a locked case. You walk around the gun show and tell people "its for sale". If its a good price, you will definitely sell it. Individual personal transfers like that are legal. You should check the ID and document it, its state law in most places.
