Give Mike Campbell his credit for being Tom’s right hand all those years. Pretty clear Petty was orchestrating the chord changes but Mike handled the arpeggios and the high octave stuff. Big ups to Ben Mont on the keys. The whole ensemble was on point for this minor key gem. I really like the shift to the major key for the chorus. Then back to that e minor. I keep coming back because this never gets old. Petty’s lyrics are priceless and timeless.

Tom Petty's death was the first non family member that I ever cried for, and mourned. His lyrics have always touched me in a way that no other musician, regardless of song writing genius (Lennon/McCartney, Dylan, etc.), ever has or ever will. I saw him in concert over 20 times from 1986 up until the last 2 shows where I saw him in 2017. I've seen him in Indiana, Red Rocks, Connecticut, NY, MA, IL, San Diego, Kansas City, and on and on. God bless him and everything he did for music, and for the people who loved him for it.

Good Lord, has it really been more than 4 years already? Anyone else feel like they've lost about two years of their life? I will always remember the day he died. I had read online he was in the hospital. They announced once that he had died, then corrected it that he was still alive. I had tickets to see Gov't Mule that night at HoB Houston. In between songs a stage hand walked out and handed Warren a piece of paper. He spoke to everyone in the band, and then without saying much, they started playing one of Tom's songs. I was so emotional I don't even remember which song. There was not a dry eye in the house.

i guess what I always liked about Tom Petty is he always put everything into his music, his whole heart and soul. At about 7 minutes in, when the crowd thought the tune was over and started to applaud, he just started back up again and gave them another 6 minutes of virtuoso soul-baring music. Damn it was good. Maybe one of the best I've ever heard.

Their first in the San Francisco Bay Area at the Keystone Palo Alto. From that night, I was convinced that they had magic and fire. And after the show, we stayed up till dawn at a motel. Everyone is going to heaven or hell because everyone has a choice now. Jesus was God in the flesh and gave His Life for all mankind that would merely accept the free gift He was offering, Faith that He is who he said He was. So simple, even a child can grasp it. Examine that for yourself, please.

It is absolute bliss when taken into Pettys complete rise from the beginning ... this performance is just an absolute culmination of years of greatness by a band ... minus Stan of course. I just luv it, when I think of Mike n Tom going thru years this is just the ultimate when they sync up. JMO.
