This pairs really well with the Sony 16-35 or the Tamron 17-27 f/2.8 lenses. So you really just need like a Sigma 150-600 and you will have a lens for basically every situation.....and you can mix in some primes if you want more speed (1.4 or 1.8's)

I love it so far. Between the 16-35GM, the 28-75 Tamron and the 70-200G, I actually rarely used the 28-75. most of what I shoot is between 16 and 35, and on the longer end past 100mm. The 28-75 is a fantastic lens, especially for the price, and I imagine the new version is even better, so don't get me wrong, it is a great lens. But this one replaces two lenses and is faster all the way to 85mm, and it hasn't left the A7III since it arrived from B&H.

I own this lens for a few weeks now and have brought it to work (2 Wedding Photoshoots and 1 Wedding Video). I have to say this is the best lens I have ordered from Tamron so far. The weight I can live with as I was so used to carrying around Canon 5D and 70-200. So with the A7 series camera and this lens, it doesn't feel much at all. The only problem I have encountered so far (also happens with the 28-75G2 ) is it cannot lock AF sometimes, even in a stationary subject. it happens so randomly that I cannot find a pattern of the cause. All I did is I took a video and send to Tamron so they can come up with an idea. Other than this problem I think it is a perfect lens for work, and a must bring lens for overseas.

You make some great points on this lens. I went back and forth on it, and one became available locally so I grabbed. And it's...HEAVY, I'm having buyer remorse. Definitely a great zoom range, and yes I know fast glass is heavy. But I recently went to the tiny trio of Sony G lenses and they're liberating and make shooting fun. I definitely don't see this 35-150 as travel lens, too heavy and cumbersome. It's an event lens for sure and studio portrait lens, in my opinion. So debating on whether to keep it. I'm very pleased with this lens for event photography. It does cover the range I use the most. It has replaced the 24-105 because it was only good for me during bright daylight events. The AF felt similar to the old 70-200 GM on the A1. At one event I had to carry the Tamron and the old GM and that convinced me to get the GM II (still waiting for that lens). The transition zone for switching camera/lens during an event is what made this combo so nice for my work. It also makes a third camera/lens combo a light carry with a 20 G or 24 GM.

I probably won't bother with this lens. First, form factor and weight just pist me off. Second, the wide end is not wide enough to be used as a jack of all trades lense. Third, the macro capability is lacking. Lastly, the flare/ghosting is excessive as commented elsewhere. There were good reasons other manufactures did not choose to manufacture the lens of this particular range of focal length. I do not really know why Tamron has repeated this type of mistake like wide end of the 28-75 f2.8 is continously being criticized not wide enough. Always leave room to be desired for photographers until Sigma jumps ahead with the 24-70 f2.8.

Hi there! Thanks for this video (and all the stuff on your channel generally)! I'm just starting with photography and got myself an A6600 with a kit lens (18-135mm, F3.5-5.6) and the Sigma 16mm f1.4. I'd like a zoom lens with a wider aperture than my 18-135mm and I'm going in circle comparing the Tamron 35-150mm and the Tamron 70-180 F2.8... One thing I'd like to be able to do is take pictures of my kid playing basketball. The sports halls are usually not well lit and my kit lens is just not fast enough (plus its reach is a little short). Looks like the 35-150 quickly switches to an aperture of 2.8 when zooming in, so I'm kind of thinking that the 70-180 isn't loosing out in this respect... What do you think? Plus my budget is limited (I'm getting into photography as a life crisis hobby ;), not gonna earn income with it), and the few ND filters I own fit a 67mm lens... So, I'm thinking maybe the Tamron 70-180mm now and maybe later on sell my kit lens and replace with with a Tamron 28-75mm. What do you think?

@@IanHobday maybe, but I heavily prefer to stick with Sony lenses unless I get a good enough reason to go to a 3rd party like I have considered for the 20mm Samyang that has Astro features and still ranks very highly for sharpness. an f1.8 zoom would be expensive no matter the brand and frankly I doubt many people would have a use for it. sounds like a specialist professional lens where changing lens simply isn't an option. for all around lenses I would very likely still have gotten the one I did because in good light f4 is plenty and if I want bokeh then I'll get a prime like I did Sony's 90mm f2.8 macro.
@IanHobday
2 жыл бұрын
@@rboydphotography No one expected a 35-150/2-2.8 either yet here we are. Personally the only zoom I own is the Sigma 100-400 DG DN. Wider than 100 I have the Sony 20/1.8, 35/1.8, 55/1.8, and 85/1.8. Also have the Laowa 85/5.6 2x Macro and their 105/2 STF. I suspect I will next be adding the upcoming Samyang 135/1.8 and selling the 100-400 to buy the 150-600 DG DN. The excellent 3rd party lens selection on E mount is one of the main reasons I bought into Sony mirrorless instead of staying with Nikon or going back to Canon.
@rboydphotography
2 жыл бұрын
@@IanHobday they have done great by opening up to 3rd party manufacturers that's for sure. to a certain extent I think people expected the 2.8, but not that it would also reach f2, perhaps not the specific range but something similar isn't unheard of. the issue with a 1.8 zoom is just the amount of glass and how big or heavy the final product could be, since f1.8 is encroaching on 'prime territory' 😂 there might be a big shock if that came in the next 2 years. plus it would suck a bit if say it came out as a sony standard lens, but not as a G or GM equivalent. I'm sort of waiting for a Sony GM Macro lens of any length to pair with my 90mm f2.8 Macro G for paid work, if the 90mm wasn't a G I probably wouldn't have gotten it. how are the sony 20mm and 85mm treating you? which specific lens option did you get, standard range or GM? also what's the 105 stf like, that's at the end of my zoom range but getting from f4 to f2 must unlock some possibilities with lighting. 150-600 sounds like a plan but I don't have much use for that range myself and would likely only ever sit at 600mm so would be wasted on me 👍
@IanHobday
2 жыл бұрын
@@rboydphotography I think a 17-35/2 from Tamron is a real possibility, or even a 17-35/1.8-2.0. Tamron clearly wants to make interesting, disruptive glass and such a lens would do exactly that. Even the rumored 20-50/2 would be very cool. The only G prime I have is the 20/1.8. The 35 and 85 are the standard Sony 1.8 primes and the 55 is the Zeiss 1.8. The GM lenses are incredible but I'm no pro and those lenses are way out of my price range. I love all the Sony primes I have and think the value is great for the price. The 55 was a bit overpriced IMO but it's still a very nice bit of glass. The Laowa STF lens is very interesting but I don't use it all that much. I bought it on sale at B&H last year for a pretty low price and may end up selling it. The Samyang 135/1.8 with AF I would likely use more and the STF could partially fund that. For the 150-600, sure, I will mostly use it at 400-600. There are no affordable primes on E mount in that range and the 150-600 is an amazing lens at an incredible price. I like the Sony 200-600 as well but the close focus breathing problems kill it for me. I hope Sony will bring out a v2 of this lens that doesn't have this problem.

I just have a thing in mind that 35 is not that wide enough. I have 14-24 and I confused betweenn Sigma 24-70 and This 35-150 Tamron. Is the 24-35 range that Difficult to Compansate??? I shoot Interiors, Astro and Landscape. For Videos short Film and Documentry...

Can you still set your aperture to 2.8 if you're at higher-ups focal length like 150?

I shoot real estate on an A6400 and i love my Tamron 11-20. It’s also great for landscape. The only downside is no lens stabilization since the 6400 doesn’t have ibis. But for work I’m using a tripod so that doesn’t matter

I just got my lens today, and so far, I love it. While using a Sony A7iii, I compared it to the excellent Tamron 28-75 and the image quality was indistinguishable between the two at 35, 50, and 75MM. I'm looking forward to getting this lens out and shooting some portraits soon. And thanks for the great review!

I see this comment was a year ago. I am upgrading from my old Nikon to a Sony a7iii soon. When I say I’m torn it’s an understatement. My simple question is, any regrets?? I use a 24-120mm f4 daily then use a 35mm 1.8 most of the time. So I’m thinking do I want one lens that could be “Jack of all trades, master of none?” Or get two lenses say another 35mm and the 24-105 f4. So I ask again, any regrets?

lol... Come on how heavy it is… Seriously everyone who complains about it got a hit the gym. This lens paired with that good Sony body it's still lighter than any cinematographer's expensive rig… Still lighter than DSLR with 70-200! Nice video, thank you! I know you couldn't miss saying it the way you said it.

Great video Jason. I bought the 28-75G2 to complete my trinity (17-28, 28-75 and 70-180) I am totally happy with what I have. I am going back to wedding photography which I have not done in a while. I am thinking of getting the 20-40 and a 35-150 for a two-lens solution and a replacement for my triple lens set up.

the weight of this thing is ripping my heart out! i am a small dude & I get tired arms as it is with the 28-75 after a day of shooting! i want so badly to replace the 28-75 & the 70-180 w/ this lens, but part of me thinks i would regret it after the first full day of shooting! xD

How does it compare to the Sony 85mm 1.8 and the 35mm 1.8? These two are my go to lenses but I’m tempted to get rid of them and buying the tamron but not sure yet until I see it’s worth it.

Anyone with this lens have an issue where after focusing the little green focus confirmation dot at the bottom left of the screen just keeps on blinking and you're not able to focus again? Like its hunting except it isn't. Keeps happening to me on the A7III, and I have to wait 10-15 seconds for it to go away or switch to MF then switch back before i'm able to focus again.

35-150+5100=satisfaction. Right, it is good but heavy. Macro, wide, tele, bright/bokeh -all in one. If your hands are stable, 150mm is no problem for stills. Again, its heavy but good.

Hit the gym if you think this lens is heavy!! lol. I just placed an order for this lens, it should be arriving today, so excited to get it in my hands! I have a shoot this morning and kinda bummed it won't get here till later today. Oh well, I'm working Lucidity Festival in Santa Barbara next weekend, so I'll get test it out then.

they claim its "worlds first". it is worlds first. where do you see a lens with this range and this aperture? even if was F2.8 all the way would still be worlds first most people that had like a 28-75 and 70-180, they still needed a wider lens like the 17-28. now you can just use a 17-28 and this and you have all ranges in 2 zooms

thanks for the review. I keep looking at reviews for this lens and so far everyone is recommending this lens. as far as weight.... I don't mind. I shoot with the Sigma 150mm with a field monitor attached and I don't notice the weight. I think I'm going to buy this lens.

Great review! Did you notice any air suction in your copy while zooming in and out? My copy does make a whooshing sound, and I am investigating if I should return it or not, great IQ and so… Maybe the suction is due to the tight bayonet? Thanks 🙏

For traveling and especially for Europe, you do need wider mm. 35mm is for sure a little tight. But if you look back in history the standard zoom was 35-70/2.8. So from that perspective, 35 isn't so bad
