Since all depots magically share all goods, wouldn’t it make sense to build a depot first in any new hub before other buildings to reduce travel time? That would eliminate them returning to the town hall, would it not?

So what's the connection with banished? On steam the publisher name is different, but some of the things here are too similar to just be coincidence.
@giin97
3 жыл бұрын
Just starting the video so I'm not to any mentioned similarities yet, but some projects draw inspiration from others, and other projects draw inspiration from reality. If multiple projects shoot for similar levels of realism, they'll have similar buildings, units, resources. If they're in the same niche genre, they'll also have similar mechanics and gameplay. Kinda like how most any smartphone is roughly a 16/9 rectangle, typically with rounded corners. It's the safest and most efficient shape that most closely matches the dimensions of the most common video format.
@Hedning1390
3 жыл бұрын
@@giin97 I have played plenty of games like this, and these two games are more similar to each other than other games, for example this game has forester, gatherer and herbalist with productivity circles boosted by forest so that you are compelled to put them all together, and with roads that are not required but boosts walking speed. The area is marked by a orange outline circle, and the building footprints are marked by a green rectangle with small tile sized arrows pointing towards the road in a row. Furthermore the herbs are a consumable and the wood is turned into firewood for heating homes. There is no 3rd game that has all of these coincidences. Even something as generic as wood is handled in different ways in different games. Firewood for heating homes is already very uncommon by itself. Herbalist is also uncommon by itself. That exact footprint look is hard to find. I don't know of any other game that has footprints looking like that. Everything together is so low odds that it cannot be a coincidence.

Why not just put the hunter's building next to the gatherer's building? A hunter at level lvl2 collects an additional 30% of venison in winter. What are you referring to? Banished came out in 2014. It was created by one person and was one of the more complex builder games at the time. It was never freeware. You may be thinking of a different game? It seems easy now but that is only because so many people were trying to beat it. It was extremely fun and challenging at launch. And the mod support made it very replayable. Banished is amazing and has influenced almost every city builder since.
@StArikAriel

@@wendtchr What? No, "Banished" was a freeware before 2010 already :) I played it myself then. With small changes (as I noticed after I purchased it, thinking there would have been great changes, had they made it commercial) it was put to be sold after. This is appalling, that there have been almost no essential changes in it for that long and they made it commercial

The Economy of this game needs some major re-balancing if it wants to be taken seriously. Lumber, in particular, is a major bottleneck at the moment ... so I understand why you would go to so much trouble to set up the best Forester you can. It's not necessary, though. A fully upgraded Sawmill will turn Lumber into Firewood at around 1:15 ratio, but both Trade for the same 1 coin. A single Sawmill and 2 Docks allow me to continuously trade 250 Firewood for 50 Lumber, making a tidy profit and supplying my village with more Lumber than it needs (and still having plenty of Firewood left over). The only use I have for Foresters is to thicken up the woods to enhance Herbalist and Hunter productivity.

I really wish they would remake and expand the original Settlers game or at least the concepts, the sequels were not good, I didn't even really like Settlers 2, the huge random map generation is what made the game fun and an actual dangerous enemy would be good. Imagine that game with more buildings and things to produce and defensive structures and a upgrade / progression system with things like walls and expanded army and economics and culture. They could put in more game mechanics like happiness and actual citizens instead of everyone just being a worker, make happiness effect things like defensive stats of troops, productivity / efficiency of the economy, life expectancy, etc instead of just feeding miners for resources to build weapons. Have tech upgrades but make it develop organically, you build schools and stuff to have the chance of research breakthroughs make some of them unique for your people (random), have it a pure chance thing just like in real life. Perhaps have things on the map where you get to capture or dig through abandoned ruins for tech if you have the engineers, or just steal/trade it from your neighbours. The more you do something the more likely it is to gain an upgrade so just building things gives you the chance to learn building techniques to speed up and improve the process/quality, have it a learned thing for each engineer that they have to pass on to others in an organic way so you actually have to set your engineers aside to train others and/or write books for a library, also have them die/retire over time, if they die before you train someone else or write a book (which requires a writing skill) you lose the skill they had, if the library burns down and you have no copy of the book, then also you lose the skill, which leads of to things like monasteries and the printing to copy books and have the book in more libraries. If you rush a project have a chance of accidents, make the upgrades and skills harder and hard to gain and train so there is no real end to the game and you need a snowballing amount of resources to sustain progression. Keep the road system of the original settlers with some tweaks and extras, instead of 1 worker per road have logistics management where you have more control of where building materials come from and go to, upgradable roads to increase travel times / capacity + bridges with ferries, canals, river boats, mine carts, etc. Make it so you require advanced forms of transport like canals and mine carts to link industries with lots of heavy produce so at a certain point 1 guy cant carry a certain amount of raw material required on his own anymore. I would try to keep the ability to have traffic jams in your towns if you messed up the design. Make buildings degrade over time so you have to rebuild them, so things are not just a build once things, make it so it slows down rapid expansion, maybe at a certain point you have trouble maintaining what you have because of disasters and war, maybe you just let things run into the ground so you can build better stuff, better engineering makes buildings last longer with better construction materials etc, I never liked the magic upgrade system in most city builders make it so you actually have to plan and rebuild things over time instead of making it instantly, also you have to deconstruct buildings with your workers before you can reuse the site unless it's a simple wooden building that you can just set fire to. Somebody make a game like that please.
@NipapornP

You are free to do so by yourself. Many new games got developed that way. And if you can't code, you could learn it, or at least learn to mod existing games, like I did many times to change them to my taste. IMHO, you have some great ideas and approaches for game mechanics, so go for it! ;)

Something he mentioned Banished. I like that game till the death wave happens. It always happens and it always, no matter how well I manage things, leads to a breakdown on logistics. It also doesn't help that the npcs in that game are profoundly stupid. More often than not, I could have a house right next to a shed full of food and firewood, and across from a market place filled to the brim with food and firewood, yet the whole house will literally die from malnutrition and lack of heating because of lack of supplies.
