They are easy, you can take the outer skin panels off quickly..... if the fixings aren't rusted solid. As well as it being an easy way to update the styling, the idea was that accident damage could be quickly repaired with ready painted panels from the factory. Great idea in theory, but the base unit inevitably got damaged in anything more than a minor shunt, and often disturbing the fit and alignment of adjoining outer panels.

Bore and stroke = Rover V8: 3.7 in (94 mm) x 3.23 in (82 mm) ; Ford L2: 3.552 in (90.2 mm) × 3.543 in (92.0 mm)

Looks great. You do not need pass an MOT to put it back on the road or to get MOT exemption. You just tick MOT exempt when you tax it. You dont even need to get imports MOT'd if they are exempt to register/drive them here. As long as its insured and you have the V5, go online to tax it (its free so do it anytime) and tick the MOT exemption box. It'll be legal to drive, then if it makes you feel better get an MOT at your leisure.

@@BRED510 it doesn’t matter that it’s the same engine family or a period correct modification. An engine swap for one with a larger capacity and a higher output will require an MOT. @BRED510

@@gregwhitaker438 on what basis? When I swapped the engine in my Beetle from a 1200 to a 1600 all I did was fill out a form and notify DVLA, a new updated logbook arrived a couple of weeks later. Because the engine was of a size/capacity and type that was an option when it was made there was no issue.
@will-prescott
8 ай бұрын
@@gregwhitaker438 Not true. There is a lot of vagueness in the MOT exemption criteria around what constitutes a "substantial change", but this is one point upon which it's crystal clear: "Alternative cubic capacities of the same basic engine and alternative original equipment engines are not considered to be a substantial change." So swapping a 3.5L Rover V8 for a 4.6L Rover V8 has no bearing at all on MOT exemption status.

I presume the new brake bleeding kit pressurises the master cylinder to force fluid through the lines. A cheap and effective way I found was to find a screw lid the same as what is on the Master Cylinder Reservoir, drill a hole and and thread or use a two pack to insert a Schroder valve . A push bike pump is enough to pressure the reservoir , only takes a couple pumps as not much pressure is required to get the fluid through to the brake cylinder nipples.

The easiest way to adjust that bonnet striker is just by sticking a short strip of 2" masking tape over the hole. Rub a dirty finger tip over the tape and highlight where the outer circle of the hole in the catch is. Put a tiny dab of dirty oil on the pin and just lower it enough to mark the masking tape. Finger tighten the striker pin, so it's just moveable as needed. Check where it touches and tighten the bolts once it's central. You learn all the tricks when you do it everyday on bonus, even a novice can usually get it spot on in two goes. You shouldn't need to adjust the pin length, unless you've disturbed the height of the two front rubber buffer pins.

You can't really lower the front on its springs due to the suspension design as you can clearly see when you lift it this radically changes the camber. The only way to do it properly would be to reweld the stub axle higher up the swivel pillar if you could find someone mad enough to do this. Rear - no problem.

Lo Matt. Loving your optimism. Re Bonnet/Hood adjustment. Normally you have a bit of adjustment room with the catch. Thinking the bottom catch is normally spring loaded. Could it be that the catch is sticky or the male part of the catch needs to be screwed down a wee bit. Just a suggestion , as i said the adjustment on these shouldn't be that finite. I was wondering why the back lights looked a little bare, ah I see they were missing the reflectors. Nice how you managed to capture the street lights coming on, a metaphor perhaps? She sounded very fruity on start up and even the rev counter works unlike my own. I'd be tempted to replace the screws holding the sill covers with stainless steel items as the ones you removed seemed to be corroding already. I can't wait for a drive video in this beauty. I think she's going to pass the mot with flying colours, here's fingers crossed! 🤞😎 P.S. what happened with the fan, did it arrive, did you fit it yet?
