Ones again a very good video from you. What sets you apart from most camertraping KZitemrs is that you explain the "process" in simple and clear way that anyone can sort of understand. One tip for you. Set up a affiliate program with Amazon and add links to every single pise of equipment that you use. That way you're content gets even more valuable for some one that plan's to get their own rig or are interested in a specific part in your "pussel" and you'll be earning some small profit from every purchase. Best regards Conny (from Finland)

Hi ,its me again im just about to buy another sb 28 speedlight and dont know enough about them this is what the seller says in the ad, "The flash is tested, working well, in great condition and ready for use. Its designed to work on the later Nikon SLR film cameras and is very usefull as helps you control your flash and fil in etc. This was commonly used by a lot of wedding photographers who used flll in flash to avoid shadows on people faces on exterior shots. It provided a catchlite in the eye and lighted faces giving photographs life and detail. Please note: --This only works on film cameras, not digital cameras". Includes pouch and instructions.. ive just messaged him again and he said that its not designed to work with the canon dslr ? am i right in thinking he is wrong or do they have different models of the sb 28 really sorry to mither again but that buy will complete my kit thank you Randy.

They're not designed to work with Canon. The Camtraptions trigger/receiver gets around that problem though. The statement about them only being designed to work with film cameras is not true. Not sure where that guy got that info. If it's an SB28, it'll work.

Hey Randy. Great Video 👍🏻 thank you 👍🏻 Which Settings do you use at the Camera and the flashes?
@RandyRobbinsPhotography
Жыл бұрын
I change them depending on the setup and distance from subject. I'd say the "normal" go to settings for the camera are 1/100, f9, variable ISO with the max ISO limited to about 1600. The flashes are all set manually between 1/16 and 1/4 power depending on distance. I never go over about 1/4 power on the flashes.

Ever had bears mess with your setup? If so, have the housings you use protected your gear pretty well? I have trail cams in an area with a lot of eastern black bears, and if I didn't have the cameras in security boxes mounted to trees with python cables, I would have lost several by now. I'd be worried about substantial $$ loss with a nice camera trap setup like yours.

I'm going to jinx myself by saying this, but so far I have been really lucky with bears. I've had them knock stuff over and take a casual swat at something, but I haven't had any real damage. They definitely have that reputation, and I definitely do worry about it. I want to hope that the pelican case type housing would keep them from really destroying the camera if they decided to take a bite, but...

Great explanation of the difference between trailcams and camera traps. Have you tried brands other than Camtraptions? If so what are your thoughts on them?
@RandyRobbinsPhotography
2 жыл бұрын
I haven't. I jumped right into Camtraptions because It seemed to be the most user friendly when using multiple flashes, and Nikon/Canon setups. I have heard other brands have quicker triggers... there is a bit of a delay with the Camtraptions trigger. It's not much, and watching trail cam video of animals at my camera trap, I don't think faster is necessarily better.... I mean it's not slow by any means, but I hear others can get a quicker detection-to-click time .

Nice video. A quick question. Why don't you mount the receiver directly on top of the transmitter that's attached to the camera hot shoe? Is it because you use a Canon rather than a Nikon?
@RandyRobbinsPhotography
2 жыл бұрын
The receiver that is in the camera housing/box is basically plugged into the camera like a remote shutter button... like an intervalometer, or bulb trigger, or any other accessory that actuates the shutter. So it's not doing any communicating that could be done through the hot shoe. It has a hot shoe mount on it just for convenience, but no signal is going through there. It's getting a signal from the trigger and tripping the shutter of the camera... regardless of what's happening on the flash channel or anything else. So there's no advantage to having it in line right there with the flash trigger that's in the hot shoe. The flash trigger in the hot shoe doesn't send a signal to the flashes until this guy tells the shutter to click. It's basically two independent systems.

@@RandyRobbinsPhotography I have a transmitter in the hotshoe of the camera with the receiver mounted on top of it. A lead then goes from the camera socket on the receiver directly into the camera. PIR transmitter on channel 1. Receiver on the camera (on top of the camera transmitter) also on channel 1. Transmitter on the hotshoe is channel 2 - as are the receivers on the flashes. Cuts down on wiring inside the box.

@@RandyRobbinsPhotography Ah, I take that back. Just re-watched the video. Looks like the same amount of wiring. Exactly the same set up, only I sit the receiver on top of the transmitter.

@@nickwestonphotography4682 Yes, I was going to say that :) haha. Same deal, except for where we're mounting the receiver. The other wiring in my box is just external battery packs for the receiver and transmitter.

I was worried about that with my camera trap. So far no one has tried to steal it but to be safe it's now attached to a 4x4 post with some cable and locks. It wouldn't deter a serious attempt but would stop someone from casually walking off with it. And there's a trailcam tucked out of sight watching the whole set up.
