Edit: I am not saying the job market doesn’t suck because it does. I’m saying there are people putting themselves in HORRIBLE POSITIONS WHILE in this horrible job market. Consider the FULL context of my video including who and what I was referring to. I know I might be seen as the bad guy but there's not enough people calling it out! What do yall think of all this? Is Gen Z cooked or are some people putting themselves in a bad position?
@klt9874

Many are putting themselves in a bad position. Everyone should think if they owned the business, whom would they want to hire and pay money for. If each person thinks like that then they would understand why many are not getting hired. Think about the young lady that went to the job interview with shorts on and when she was denied the interview instead of a self reflection, she lashed out on social media. We are in a space where gen z is literally in an echo chamber on social media and not understanding how it is negatively impacting them. Final note: The same folks are complaining and then won't vote nor will they run for office to make changes to policies that they believe are negatively impacting them. They literally spend all their time on social media complaining and that is the end of their effort.

Then I had my in person interviews, this was during Covid times and I was terrified. After the interview I sent the person who'd become my manager an email thanking him for the opportunity and then elaborated on some of the questions I felt I had perhaps not answered as well as I could. I get what you're saying and its valid. But at the same time, this is all quite predictable and the root started a long time ago with the elders. Even people who aren't wilding on social media are dealing with this too. You can't have companies refusing to train people and have entry level jobs that require years of experience or outright disrespecting their employees and telling them that if they don't like it they can be replaced. This foolishness has been going on for almost 2 decades. Now those seeds are being sowed, of course "no one" knows how or wants to work. These companies were so used to cycling though the same employees and now that they're "dropping" or retiring. Now this new generation feels hopeless and I can't really blame them for reacting the way they are. They weren't set up to succeed. This videos performance is enough for me. Like girl you're out here blaming thr absolute extreme outliers for the fact the job market is shit? The vast majority of people applying right now aren't under qualified, shooting for the stars, social media self sabotagers. They're normal people with a degree, with experience, with a professional front facing appearance. Talk about the union busting, talk about being underpaid and overworked, talk about how inflation has gone up while pay had been the same for decades. It reeks of "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" which is inherently a satirical term. And before people starting coming at me like I'm not employed, I work 2 white collar jobs, have a side hussle and I'm still struggling to buy a home in a mid-COL area. Miss me with that shit. I make more than a factory worker and I'm still barely getting by bc housing is 50% of my income for a studio, chronic illness got me in debt to the hospital, and paying for food/rent/insurance/retirement had me at a net 0.

One day, I went to the job and just had them know my face. Before I left the building, the woman called me at the lobby security desk. Are you really flexible. I would change the title tbh if I was you, as a fan not a hater. Your title implies there is a no problem with the job market and that it's job seekers fault akin 'YOU are the problem!'. You contrdict yourself in your pinned comment that it is the job market and agreed it sucks. Now the video itself I agree professionalism online matters, but it doesn't relate at all to the title. I disagree personally with the tattoos and piercings since tbh they shouldn't matter or affect the performance of an individual at a job (at that point we are judging people based on appearence, and we shouldn't be judging someone on having tattoos or piercings the same way we shouldn't someones hair, skin colour, etc). Just because somethings the status quo doesn't mean it shouldn't be challenged, otherwise we'd still be living in a world that normalised only giving white men jobs if that status quo was never challenged. I'm POC myself, I know tattos and piercings aren't directly as comparable as race or gender since they're a choice, but still stand by that. Also, things such as giving gifts to get jobs has been long discredited as highly unprofessional, and should definitely not be normalised. An interviewer should not be owed anything, who's buying cards for every interview they have, thank you for what talking to me for 30 minutes? Expecting that of a candidate would be unbeliveably egotistical and if anything would be a red flag that that person should not be a hiring recruiter, it's almost bribe level. If we normalise that next thing you know we're gonna have people doing thank you cards with dollars inside, like hell no.

Another issue is definitely that Gen Z has a tendency to quit very quickly, which can sometimes make it harder for a company to trust them as an employer. But let's be clear, companies are also doing a lot of ghost hiring, where they pretend to have a hiring event (to quell any sort of scrutiny), only to not end up hiring anyone. A family member of mine went though this four times! Companies got used to reduced staff and don't want to pay more people. As a result they will work the little staff they have longer hours and harder.

its nice to rant every now and then but if all you do is be pessimistic and have a negative view of yourself and your life then thats all its going to be. a lot of the time even when these people DO get hired they start complaining about the job that they were begging to get! they show up late, don't put in the right amount of effort, talk smack online and then get shocked when they're fired. first impressions and how you act afterwards DOES matter! at the end of the day all you can do is work hard, try your best to be responsible and think positive and good things will come to you even if it does take time!!

@SocialSymone

I’m not saying the job market isn’t trash. however, in the full context of my video, I explained some people are putting themselves at a disadvantage, regardless of what the state of the economy is in. despite what we think about having visible, tattoos that are not able to be covered up if you are competing, and you have a huge tattoo that cannot be covered up versus someone who doesn’t that may be something that the hiring manager would look more finally of another applicant of . I did not want to speak on fake job listings in this video. I’m speaking on something very specific in my point is what you can control and know to be the standard if you don’t fall within that, you may be overlooked by employers. and I’m talking about things you can control like not having tattoos that you cannot cover up because since when has that been normal for corporate America or having piercings and having a crazy social media presence where you extensively use vulgar language.

I’m weak! I feel like you watched that Life After Layoff vid because he talked about a woman complaining about not getting a job, but sis have tattoos on her face and some of them are of religious symbols. She is a satanist and thought it was because of her religion, but Marshall’s (or TJMaxx, one of them), denied her without even seeing her. Her going into the store made it worse 💀. When people get tatts they have to think about that, it’s why you rarely see people with face or neck tatts in corporate jobs! If you want those, you can have them but that limits your job opportunities! I definitely do agree. I think there are more factors that weren’t touched on but are important. Deserving a certain job: While people can have this belief, many have it due to their parents. This is especially true if the parents are immigrants and/or poor. It took me 8 months to find my job and when I tried to do a side hustle at a restaurant, my parents were disappointed because it was “beneath me” (because they said they worked those jobs years ago to move up so my sister and I wouldn’t have to do them). IMO, I thought it was wild of them to say that considering the point of that gig, the full time job, ANY JOB is to get MONEY. Yeah, I didn’t have a lot of expenses but I’m single with no kids. This is the time for me to make a nest egg so I can reap the benefits way after getting married and having kids. This isn’t the first hard time in America. Back then, people did whatever they could to make it. They weren’t thinking about getting a specific job, they just needed a job to make some money. This was even true in 2008 and will remain true. If you won’t apply to certain jobs because you or your parents believe they’re under you, stop! Just apply! The goal right now is to make money and the experience you’ll get will benefit you in the long run. If you don’t, you’ll be broke, have no experience, and a massive gap on the resume. Also note, especially if you have immigrant parents, they will get on you for not having a job and then get on you for not having the “ideal job”. Again, they had to work the “bad jobs” to make it so don’t let them tear you down. You’re grown, need money, and they clearly don’t want to baby us while pushing us away from certain things as if we were kids. They want to say we’re not built for hard times and we’re weak and all of that… yeah because you won’t let us be grown and figure stuff out 😂 Certain employees are horrible people: This ties into what you said about one’s social media presence. At my family’s business, there are people who have been hired by patients (a part of a healthcare program) who are just abysmal. You can say I’m biased because it’s my family’s job, but when an employee can set their own schedule, clock in from their phone, and they decide to clock in/out at times WAY BEFORE or AWAY after their CHOSEN schedule, then complain about pay when they know what they’re doing is going towards insurance companies… 😒. The insurance sees your foolishness, it’s not our fault! Obviously, this is only a few of them but imagine if they were dumb enough to go online and complain. We do not know anything about the people we’re watching. We don’t know what they’ve done before they recorded. Many places are very strict on recording, especially workplaces since private information can be leaked and it can offended consumers/patients (ex: maternity unit “ick” video). Depending on their sphere, these ranters could be publicly exposed for their stupidity (especially if in the media space) or down low like on your state’s exclusion lists. You not getting a job is not the same as them, they very well could have thrown their last job away. Remember, there are people who quit their jobs to attend Beyoncé concerts 😂. It’s def good to know people are experiencing the same thing as you. Again, I applied to jobs for 8 months and I watched those types of vids to make sure I wasn’t bugging since I did “everything right”. Mind you, I started in March 2023, 2 months before graduating with my tech degree. Am an office manager in healthcare using bits of my degree. I’m not getting paid the way I’d like but it’s enough for me to pay bills, invest, and have a few bits of change on the side. When things get better, I’ll return to tech using the designs I made during my current position. We just have to buckle up because if you’re waiting for things to get better before leaping, that may take a while. Stay away from anyone who wants to bring you down with them and keep your head up. Take what you can get and work up so you’ll be able to make your moves in better economic times!

Great advice! A lack of social media presence (e.g., Thomas Crooks) is also a red flag.

I graduated 5 years ago, I finished my dissertation 4 months early and had an entry level role lined up for April 1st (when classes stopped for exam prep). I was slightly overqualified and took leave for exam days (told them at the interview I'd need that), but I had a job months before everyone else was looking. Moved companies twice since and been promoted twice in the current one. Sometimes you just have to be different - be it in timing, work experience, life experience etc - and you'll get in easy

I feel like people have lost the concept of a group chat. That’s what they’re for…those private moments. No need to put it on main.

I disagree with this video. The job market is horrendous. Even getting an awful retail job is a fight

They can’t understand because everyone got a participation medal growing up. Most people miss opportunity because it’s dressed in overalls and looks like hard work. Work means you gotta work and without participation trophies

Sometimes they can’t be blamed There are people who are being toyed around with by lousy companies/employers and they try and try and try and it’s like those places are getting a kick at someone having to grovel at their feet. Knowing that their livelihood is in their hands and they’re at their mercy. It’s pretty evil. It’s not everyone struggling in the market now but it is happening to people.

The job market is awful, I had to apply to over a hundred jobs within the span of three months before I got a job. I don't understand why people are making it HARDER for themselves by posting unprofessional things!! post it to the group chat, not all of tiktok

I can't imagine making a video about it. I spent 5 months job searching, part of it while I was finishing school, and it felt like a full time job on its own. I got two different bald spots from stress that I'm just starting to grow back now. But i dont post that stuff on social media. I also dont have my social media like facebook under my real name and its not connected to the email i always use for interviews. My dad convinced me too when i was like 13 because he watched a friend/coworker of his get fired for being _tagged_ in a picture. You gotta be careful. Anyway, i do hate the game but i know its real. We all are forced to play.

I love your content, it's so refreshing to watch!! I don't like watching rant videos. Simply because I don't like listening to people rant / complain in real life. 😂I am a "put up or shut up" person. Got a problem? Come up with a solution or shut up, those are tour only options .😂 My observation is a lot of these folks in those videos have a few similar issues: entitlement, lack of forward thinking (only focused on the present), and they can't get off their phones. A lot of major companies have very strict social media policies/contracts that employees must follow, usually due to confidentially reasons. The fact that people boldly go online to "diss" their jobs or show a very unfavorable image of themselves, not realizing these videos are most likely being viewed by said conpanies they are applying for.. Which circles back to the lack of forward thinking for some of these folks. Its a bad look.

Thank you! Why are y'all online making these videos??? Y'all are making yourselves a liability🤭I asked my younger colleagues if this is a "younger thing" cuz I know I value my livelihood way too much. Granted, they can lay me off because "these jobs dont care about you", but that's what building my savings and continuing education are for. I watch these videos and clutch my pearls because I know employers check social media - especially if it's down to the last pick. Maybe it wasn't *just* because he walked in the room and "dapped up" the other guy, maybe it was your social media presence🤔
