My grandparents met in 60s. My grandma told me their love story many times. They met at a party in 1966. They put on slow music for the couples to dance to. My grandparents were single. My grandfather saw my grandmother alone and invited her to dance. She was very beautiful, she possessed people with her gaze. They connected so much that they finished dancing with a little kiss. "A love from a movie," said my grandmother.

@jeromeglick
Жыл бұрын
Same for me. But I think it's more that styles change with the times. And a particular kind or era of music reflects an aspect of human experience that is timeless, universally felt and understood throughout time. Songs from the past are relevant today because they have a character that differs from the character of songs today. You had to live in that time, a time when those expressions were fully embodied by the culture, to produce music like that. That spirit lives on, quietly, amongst countless of us, though it is not in the fore nowadays. What's in vogue fluctuates. But true sentiments live on. The lenses, the colors through which we view the world, are the case for someone born in any time, expressed and proliferated only by a culture that would feasibly allow it. Past life is an interesting theory though...

So happy I lived those times, though, good and bad. No matter what time you grew up in, you have to find the good among the bad. It’s how we adapt, grow, and move forward. We are, ultimately, 99.9% memories in the end. It’s a love of stability. The post wwII period was heavily romanticized because of economic stability and the men returning from war. They were encouraged to marry as that was their ‘reward’ for serving. Thus the aura of love and family. You could also easily afford a home, a stay at home wife, several children, off of one income. Which unfortunately glosses over a lot of ptsd and family issues caused by the war.

Since i was only 5 years old I've always loved listening to music from the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, and even now, at the age of 21, when my neighbors hear me playing some of music that never ever heard, they sometimes think that I've lived in the past. This is because I've never played any songs from the 2000s to the present, and I have a large personal music collection in my magic mirror.

These songs remind me of when my great-grandparents would play them late at night or really early in the morning and they would just hold each other in the living room and dance to them, there were certain parts of certain songs when my great-grandad would sing the lyrics to my great-grandma. When my great-grandma passed away my great-grandad would play the songs they used to dance to and just smile and tell me stories about what they used to do when they were younger, tell me how beautiful my grandma was while showing me pictures of them or the pictures he took of her, he would tell me how much he loved her and how much he missed her(he cried every time he spoke about her). He recently passed away as well and I'm so happy he gets to be with her again, now here I am listening to the songs and I miss them so much ❤🕊I want to be in love with someone the way they were in love with each other, I'm glad they can finally have each other again.

I’m black and whenever I bring my love for the 40s-60s up to my “woke” sister, she says “yeah that was a great time if you were white.” And I get hat, but please just let me enjoy the oldies. They’re so golden and I live them so much.

I get it. This music is beautiful and it's fun. There were a lot of things not right in the 60's like racism, war, cold war, sexism etc. We could go on forever with the negative. But I prefer to embrace the positive. I LOVE this music. I pray for the day that we can all come together as we are and there is no "otherism" and the world is fair and just. I don't know if that will be achieved in my lifetime as I'm 60 and white. I know I had a privileged life by just being white, even though I grew up poor. But the world is changing for the better. It's why certain white people are trying so hard to hold on to the old times. It's not all white people though. I brought my kids up to not discriminate and to care for people as they are. One child is non-binary and gay, the other is married to a man 3 inches shorter than her and she's "better" than him in the looks dept. He's a great guy and that's what she loves. Neither care what the world thinks of them and I'm proud to say they are incredibly nice people. They also love this music. Keep being you and being true to yourself and don't let anyone take your joy. 💖

Lovely songs from the past. I was 10 years old in 1960, and remember many of these recordings from the early 1960's. A few years later and everything was different. Graduated from HS in '68 and the music then on the radio was much different.

I just love the sincerity and simplicity of 60s love songs. No promiscuity, messing round before settling down, playing mind games. Just wanting to fall head over heels in love with someone and spend the rest of your life with them, through thick and thin. It's all I've ever wanted from a relationship, so I suppose that's why I resonate with them. Also, particularly love Secretly by Jimmie Rodgers. Imagining how many gay people or mixed race couples would have listened to that song and heard an entirely different message. As a gay man myself, it definitely resonates on many levels

I dream constantly of being in the 60s with my boyfriend, slow dancing in our living room with these kinda of songs. I wish I could go back. I enjoy the present, but I wish I was especially alive between the 40s-60s. "Oh, but racism! Oh, sexism! Homophobia!" We get it. Spare me the lecture. These things still exist today. While things are changing today, there will always be racism and sexism and that kind of thing. There will always be the bad apples. Let people dream. We're hurting literally no one.
