Good, I’m happy to hear it! When I honestly sit back and think about my favorite channels.. it’s people doing what they love and I don’t care about the editing. I think just trying to please the algorithm got to me and I wanted to grow the channel and make videos that people wanted to see. It worked, I have some videos with a ton of views but I’m lacking the sense of community that I think is far more valuable than watch time and subscribers!

One of the rules I live by is "just because I can, doesn't mean I should'" This video is a perfect example of that. You CAN spend hours and hours making KZitem videos (while making you unsettled and unhappy) or doing what you SHOULD be doing, which is discovering what is best for you and your family and actively pursuing what brings you joy and contentment. Congratulations for learning and sharing with us one of life's most valuable lessons and I will continue watching you share your happiness with others.

I’ve been doing this a few years and that’s the best advice I could give anyone! Create a schedule and video style that you can continue to maintain for a long time and something you ENJOH doing. Don’t let the algorithm dictate what you post. It is hard sometimes when you spend so much time on a video, it does 500,000 views, so you end up just doing that over and over again to chase those views but to be honest… my videos with far less views are far more fulfilling. Be you!

You got it man! Dang, I can totally relate. Thankfully I didn’t get to the point of HATE, but I was headed that direction. Being able to quit my day job made a huge difference, but even that didn’t nearly fix everything. I’ve also started slowing down my editing. It wasn’t uncommon for me to spend 50 hours on the edit 🥴 Totally not sustainable. We’ve actually found that the better we plan our videos the better the filming goes and the faster the editing. I hope your new “resolution” goes really well for you. Videos don’t need fluff, but they do need personality. I think if anything you’ll just grow even faster. Wishin you the best!

You guys have an amazing channel and the work you put into it shows. I think you have a healthy balance of fancy editing and personality, you're definitely doing it right! One day I would love to quit my job, but we need my works insurance haha! One of our kids is on the spectrum and the therapy he's in costs SO much money and my works insurance covers it in full. One day though! Either way, I appreciate the comment, I feel less alone on KZitem after posting this video, that's for sure!

You and I have emailed back and forth so you know what I'm about to say. So this is for the casual comment reader who may be feeling the same way. Please only do what you love. KZitem SHOULD be fun and when it just turns into another grind it's not worth it at all. Do what you love and YOUR people will show up and love your content, and your family, and you won't have to work above and beyond comfort to build your community. Think of your audience as your friends. If you have to work your butt off and impress your friends so they stick around(at the expense of your own mental health and family)... are those really your friends? Just be you. It's hard to be yourself and just put yourself out there but the community that can be built from that is genuine and loves YOU not just your content. That's the sweet spot where creators can love what they do.

It’s so.. validating to hear that coming from real people. KZitem has a way of telling you otherwise through analytics, BUT the people that do watch those videos honestly aren’t the people that stick around, they don’t care about you, they get in and get out. My favorite channels and videos to watch are those that are raw and real. Sure some fancy edits are nice, but the 'oopsie sorry I dropped you' is the real deal. (or me the other day wiping cud juice off the phone screen after my buck tried to eat it.) My videos are clunky, chunky, real. I use my phone to film and edit right now and probably will for some time. Sure I'd love to get to 1,000 or more subscribers and the required watch time to get monetized, I could sure use the extra income to make improvements around here. But in the meantime, I'm just here doing my thing the best I know how. I hadn't seen your channel until Heather over at @sage and stone homestead posted the link but just from the bit of info in this video I'll probably be back to check you out some more.

I’m a fast taker too so I follow you just fine 😂) Speaking personally, I don’t want to see documentary style videos. I definitely got caught up in the analytics and growing my channel, BUT there’s no longevity in that! If you don’t like over editing.. you’ll probably not enjoy any video I’ve posted in the last 18 months or so (except maybe the last couple), but I’m slowing it down, filming what I’m actually doing, and not worrying so much about the editing side of things.
