Happy for you getting a 20 miler in and still feeling 'decent'. I think your decision is spot on, You are probably not ready for the 100+ miler. AS for those Maurten gels I use them on long runs and really find them easy on the gut and a great addition to my nutrition plan.

Didn't expect that decision! Seems you are really reasonable. Usually runners take the incorrect decisions in such scenarios! May I ask sth not running related? Is the media mod necessary for GoPro vlogging during running?
@Run4Adventure
3 жыл бұрын
I definitely thinks it's the right decision to make and I'm not always reasonable, I've just learnt from mistakes I've made in the past! You don't need the media mod but it makes so much difference to your audio if it's windy. It was windy that day and you'd never know because of the shot gun mic on the mod. I would film with out it now, it's a great Go pro accessory 👍 Thanks for watching 🙏

I can totally sympathise with your decision there Loyd. I too would've had run several normal marathons under my belt by now but like you dont reckon ive run much more than 15 or so miles in any one run for this year alone. Ive also got several 100 milers on the cards still for this year (postponed from last year) but am seriously thinking of not bothering. I am split though as I do think that for the sake of say having one or maybe even two DNF's it might have given your body/mind the fire and prep it needed to be able to tackle something like the TDS which I know you're still interested in taking part in. I would say that the TDS is much much harder although there is lots of walking involved so I reckon even if you managed half of the GUCR it would put you in a very good position to tackle harder runs? I personally hate it when Ive DNF'd so wouldn't go into a run before hand if I thought that I might, as thats the wrong mindset to have and thats a bigger battle for ultras as you know.
@Run4Adventure
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Phil 👍 I'm not a lover of a DNF either, it can have a real negative impact on your mind set when it comes to running distance. Also if I'd of gone and attempted it Im sure I would have stuffed my ankle and wouldn't of been able to run for a long time! Now I can focus on building strength and fitness for the TDS, it's definitely a tough race that's for sure. Having been out to UTMB 4 times I know what's coming and I know preparation is super important for me 🏃♂️⛰️ Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's really appreciated and good luck with your races this year 🙏

It sounds like the correct decision. Better to be continuing to build up the necessary resilience for the next race. Thanks for sharing your thinking. Something that most of us can relate to. It's always tempting to be optimistic and get back into the swing of things quickly, but sometimes the price is not worth paying. Patience will get you there faster. That's what I've learned, eventually. Runners can be slow learners at times, and it usually hurts.

Yes if your body is holding up and your confident in it holding up 2 training. Lil KZitem secrets: I do that all the time, blocked trails , usually I will walk a lil bit of it just to check why is it " closed " but most of the time if there is no real hazards, I usually go down them. Particularly trapping lines in the forest are highly technical trails to train on for me and I have some close by. I say Loyd if ya feel your over doing it, then have a kick back day.

You seem comfortable in your decision Loyd, which means it's the right one 🙂 I'd have gladly cheered you on from the Birmingham canals (my part of the world), but maybe next time. you looked fresh after 20 miles!! That’s a great result given the start to 2021, Loyd. But you, IMHO, made absolutely the right decision with your head ruling your heart. A good reminder to us all that you have to be physically and mentally trained in order to take on these big ultras and winging it with just mental enthusiasm alone will not cut it. nice one 😎

Like others have said, probably a good decision Loyd, 145 miles is a long way and also, I imagine not too many hills at all. Than can take its toll through sheer monotony. I'm in a similar spot. Pulled out of Dragons Back as I realised work pressure would just be too much. Got a spot in SDW100 but battled a quad injury during build and have had runners knee for a few weeks now but getting better. I have a few 80km weeks in the bag and did a 30/20 weekend last weekend but I'm trying 5hrs of run 20min, walk 10 tomorrow and if that doesn't go well, I'll probably pull the pin :(

@@Run4Adventure You're welcome. I actually meant, "no" for you to do this race at this time. It seemed far too early after your injury for you to run a 145km race, especially after the year we've had. Personally feel that really big races reasonably early in the season should be approached with "slingshot" fitness from the previous season. So your injury and the year we've made it a risk in my view - then I watched your video. Another great video by the way. :)
