My Euphorbia Ascot Rainbow is blooming it’s head off right now, but try as I might, I just don’t like it!
So today I’m following what I hear so many great gardeners tell us … it’s your garden, if you don’t like it then just take it out.
You must remember to wear gloves when cutting the stems of any Euphorbia because they produce a toxic milky sap which is a skin irritant and you must be careful not to let it touch your skin, or even worse get into your eyes.
The plant has developed this practice over the years as a way of warding off and protecting itself against herbivores - animals such as deer, rabbits, horses and even elephants 🐘😊.
The milky sap will quickly dry up once it’s cut but I’ll make sure to keep an eye on my dogs for the rest of the day, and keep them away, although i do have many plants which are poisonous to dogs, but I always find they have an inner sense and just know what plants to avoid. A bit like other herbivores do, I imagine.
And so, I’ve chopped off all the blooms in this video. I know some of you may disagree and think I’ve ruined my spring blooms but … I just don’t like them, they bother me, and after all, it’s my garden! 🤣🤣
