Very cool. Reminds me of a video of a program/engine that simulated non-euclidian space. Basically, OP built a basic standing doorway, and the space on the other side was completely different, regardless of whether the space on the other side was impossibly tiny or large for the doorway size. Almost like stepping through a portal to another world. Horror games like to use them in clever ways.

certainly a nice visual :D My guess on how it was made, is that this is a void map where only the slice of the world exists. and seeing how the torches on the outside world don't spawn flame particles, it must be a static image that has replaced the normal skybox. the inside world slice is probably made with a mini blocks mod.

I love the fact that this world has an infinite surface area but finite volume. You can not go infinetely far away, but you can go infinetely often to the outside without going back
@BetaDude40
2 ай бұрын
@@_anon If we're to imagine this as a self-similar 3D fractal with the big skybox house as the first iteration, then the OP would be right. Since the outer volume is bounded by the largest iteration, the volume of the whole structure, even if it's infinitely complex, would be bounded entirely within the first room and thus finite. But because the simulation could (in theory) be infinitely complex going down, the surface area would continue increasing and be unbounded. Thus, finite volume, infinite surface area. This assumption only works if the outer house is truly the first iteration of the self-similar fractal. In truth we could be somewhere in the middle, in which case it would have unbounded volume and that would also be infinite. In practice of course it is neither, since there's only 3 iterations: the normal game, a smaller map that looks like a complex block model of the area as part of a resource pack, and the larger map that's just a static image printed on the skybox.
@BetaDude40
2 ай бұрын
@_anon Ah, you're saying that mass is conserved between different iterations. In that case you can imagine it like that, in that carrying things across the transition from one iteration to a lower one shrinks the water (otherwise logically you'd either be crushed under the water and bottle at the same size, or more worryingly you'd break the conservation of mass and energy) In practice though, I think the player is just limited to their one slice, and can only see the layer one bigger and smaller than theirs and can't travel between them. Just because they are self-similar doesn't mean they behave causally (We don't see the potatoes removed from the small model, after all, unless I'm blind) Your interpretation is valid though, I was more meaning that as a static system this would be a fractal 3D space, so having infinite surface area but finite volume does make sense.

thats actually exactly what would happen. He didnt exactly walk outside in terms of XYZ-dimensions, but in terms of WXYZ-dimensions. The W-dimension basically connects the door to the one inside the house. Its similar how the Portal games work, except size also changes. If he were to go outside again, he would shrink even further.
@krolmuch

It's just like in 2006 Prey, where you are in a room with a tiny asteroid on display, go through a portal and you're on that tiny asteroid in that room.

That is actually rather pleasing. I for some reason like this style when you're shrunk to the size of an ant and all the regular objects are all collosal to you. Is there a particular name of this style, like in videogames and such? I want to see what games explore this theme.
