This video, part three of a series, includes the Italian cities of Lucca, Florence and Siena. The old city of Lucca with its ancient amphitheater now encircled with residences and shops is a charming place to visit. We visit just prior to the annual parade of lights. It was the birthplace of composers and nowadays the Lucca area has many schools of music. Next we visit Florence which was blessed by the Medici family with their villas, churches and artworks. You will see "The David" sculpture in the Academia museum which is an icon in Florence and admired thru the centuries. The Duomo is probably the most recognized building with its brick dome and colorful marble exterior. Over the Arno River the Ponte Vecchio bridge is a landmark in Florence. You will have a panoramic view of Florence from Michelangelo Hill, will visit piazzas where locals and tourists gather and see a snippet of the Uffizi Gallery. The video ends in Siena, just south of Florence. Both of these cities have UNESCO designation. Siena has an amazing cathedral built in the Romanesque style in the 12th century, then transformed in the 13th century to one of the finest examples of Italian Gothic architecture. Also, I have included a description of the horse race which takes place the 2nd of July and 16th of August each year in the Piazza del Campo, the central gathering place in Siena. This horse race has participants from ten of the seventeen Contradas (or city wards) in Siena and brings in visitors from all around the world to see this unusual event.
