Tarikh Episode 649
In this episode Nikhil talks about the real story of Leonardo’s dicaprio recent movie, Killers of the flower moon. The Osage murders, occurring in the 1920s, were a dark chapter in American history, highlighting the impact of greed and racism on the Osage Nation. As oil was discovered beneath Osage lands in Oklahoma, the tribe became incredibly affluent, earning substantial royalties from the oil industry. This newfound wealth, however, led to a series of targeted killings known as the Osage murders.
Members of the Osage Nation were systematically murdered for their oil money, and the crimes became so widespread that they attracted national attention. The perpetrators often conspired to marry Osage individuals or gain control of their wealth through fraudulent means, including poisoning, shootings, and bombings. The local authorities were often complicit or ineffective in addressing the crimes.
The federal government eventually intervened, and the investigation uncovered a web of corruption involving both white settlers and law enforcement officials. In 1925, the FBI, then known as the Bureau of Investigation, launched a major investigation under the leadership of a young J. Edgar Hoover. The investigation resulted in arrests and convictions, shedding light on the extent of the conspiracy and the profound injustice suffered by the Osage people. The Osage murders underscored the systemic challenges faced by Native American communities and the need for justice and accountability in addressing crimes against them.
