I have to admit when I was a small child the theme and the green hands typing used to scare me in the 70s. In the 70s I don't think it had the photos of the main players of the day the way it did in the 80s. During early childhood and during school hols I used to find reasons to be in the toilet at 1255pm. Lol. At almost 42 I'm still not keen on the image/music combo.

+Raj Nirvan The BBC treated lunchtime news with contempt really until 1981. They used to just wheel out a short 5-15 minute bulletin in the middle of virtually no proper daytime schedules. News Afternoon launched in 1981 to try and compete with ITN, but it took the BBC One O'Clock News and a proper daytime line up on BBC1 in 1986 that the BBC started to care about lunchtime news. They had the bonus of having news already at lunchtime on all four of its national radio stations.
