Quick tip: You can chuck a pocket warmer in your thermal bag and it will 'prime' your thermal bag and make a huge difference to how warm the food keeps because the food doesn't have to waste energy warming up the bag. You can get electric ones but the disposable ones last 6-8 hours.

While a great tip for keeping food warm, the payoff is literally zero. The overlap between customers that would even realize and customers that would be nice enough to leave a good review because of it is tiny, and you will never start making more money or have a better rating because of it in the long term.

As a counter argument, it is worth considering that they are still fundamental for the operation of the business. So they have a lot of leverage especially if it’s organised. Which I’m surprised to see that so far it is. There doesnt need to be some kind of appeal to workers rights because they could compel better fees by shutting down companies operation. It’s worth noting that many of these people could also probably work other jobs, or they could switch to Prime delivery which is even easier to sign up to during those strike days. Either way I’m interested to see if this develops.

This is no true. The average McDonalds order is £30, plus £3 delivery free, uber gets £13 and pays the rider £2.80. How are they losing money? Furthermore, how is it possible for JustEat to pay £4.50 minimum from 2017-2023 and still operate? It's Uber forcing all the other platforms to reduce fees to compete. In America, Uber gets away with it cause there's a tipping culture. Googling profit/loss statetements or going Company House, will not give an accurate image as massive companies manipulate statements, like underdeclaring profits to avoid taxes.

They need to verify drivers with NI or something, that done, they need to not use "self employment" as an excuse to pay people under minimum wage, it's bad practice. Once you factor in petrol, wear and tear, etc the pay should be £18/hour minimum and honestly I don't see why drivers take less than that, unless you're dodging tax. I am sick to the back teeth of "Sarah on a bicycle" being Mohammed in a BMW, shouldn't be so easy to make multiple accounts. Another bugbear for me is when someone accepts an order, and just doesn't head to the pickup for 30+ minutes, you watch them on tracking driving to different restaurants. Your food comes cold, because it's been sat in a restaurant for 25 minutes before even being picked up.

£18 p.h is the equivalent of £37.5k pa. (Almost $72k AUD) Not to digress or diss from the channel's efforts here, but this is work that requires little brain power and zero education. The gig economy is the equivalent of a factory worker in the 50s, placing biscuits into a packet. Frankly this type of work is no different to my years as a waitress/bar tender 40 plus years ago. It's a partime gig to save up for a house/car ontop of a full time job. If you think your worth more than min wage, get another job. No one is nailing your feet to the floor and forcing you to work for these organisations.
@MikaMikaMika89
4 ай бұрын
@lizzy9975 it's not 18 ph though is it. There are fuel costs, wear and tear, and most hours not coming close to 18 never mind the time spent with no orders coming in. So once that stuff comes off your take home actually will be minimum wage. There's a reason most self employed jobs and trades don't charge minimum wage for their time because there are a lot of costs associated. For example time spent working on taxes or fixing the work vehicle. It's just not very smart to look only at gross pay as that's not what you're getting when you measure the costs against the income.

Striking while being self employed is an odd one, These delivery riders seem to think they have more legal rights which they don't - Their will always be people who are very very happy with the current rates and will still do the drops - The delivery company's know this so why would they increase prices ? - If people leave they will quickly be filled by new people - The only solution they could offer is limiting the number of people per area each night, as to many people means less orders each hour so less money overall - they should also add a fine system for places that take to long to have food ready, with this money going to the driver, that would fix a few problems. Increasing money per order is just a plaster for the bigger issues of to many drivers per city fighting over a limited number of orders. and then places being to slow to get the food out.
@abdulkadirosman2816
6 ай бұрын
"The only solution they could offer is limiting the number of people per area each night" Deliveroo used to do this. You'd try to go online in an area and it would say some thing like "sorry there are too many rides you can go to this nearby area". And it worked. Deliveroo also did many others things, like give new riders Weekend only contracts, where they weren't able to go online during weekdays. It was great cause existing riders werent flooded with new riders, and new riders knew exactly they were signing up for a Weekend job. Then some riders started striking. Some unions started getting involed. Lefty MPs started getting involved. And the goverment ruled that riders are fully self employed and that Deliveroo can not restrict when they work or place any other restrictions. So Deliveroo removed everything and made it a free-for-all. My solution is a minimum £4.50 payment for every playform. It wouldnt be a race to the bottom, and platforms that are the best at marketing, customer retention, etc, would survive.

In Liverpool, probably other cities, we have many immigrants from Eritrea,Yemen etc doing this. No way are they paying tax (theyre not even officially allowed to work here), and they would work regardless of pay increase. To them it's just an opportunist thing, make some dodgy money while it lasts. Uber etc, or the government, should fix this, but they don't care. As long as this situation continues, pay rates won't rise and strikes won't work.

HMRC are going after resellers on eBay, it’s only a matter of time before they finally go after delivery riders.

@@redmille1000 They are not going really after eBay sellers unless they are businesses, they are definitely going after delivery drivers, who are earning 25k+ and not paying any tax when our low paid workers have to contribute.

True what u said about strikes (I did strike) BTW however the first day I did not know there was a strike and guess what the people who stopped me (nicely )were people legally living and working In The uk. When they don't even have the right to work, honestly. This job is gone... when me and whoever posted tax are more affected mote then them ..

Fair point about illegal drivers complaining. There's a huge percentage of illegal drivers here in Tenerife and it pisses me off that they are getting Uber orders while I sit there waiting. Anyway... On to the camera... Hope it's an Insta360. I have the One RS and low light isn't that bad I think.

If fees are increased the cost will be put on the customer or the restaurant’s. If either of them have to pay extra they won’t use the platform then the riders won’t have a job full stop
