It's been a LONG time since I've seen these guys together! Same energy, vibe and a 'tad' more swagger as the first time I saw them at the Upstage Club 1970. Miss seeing them together at the Pony in the 70's on those special nights. TJ Shark River Hills

After a 13-year break, Steve Van Zandt reunited with Southside Johnny in 1991 for their fourth album together. It's an unashamedly nostalgic disc, highlighted by "It's Been a Long Time," which features him, Van Zandt and Springsteen reminiscing about the old days on the Jersey Shore. "We lived in a time and a world of our own," sings Southside. "Making up the rules as we went along." The album received raves, but in the grunge era there wasn't much appetite for a new Springsteen album, let alone one by the Asbury Jukes. Bruce Factor: He sang on one song and donated "All the Way Home," which he eventually recorded himself on 2005's Devils and Dust. ," which he eventually recorded himself on 2005's Devils and Dust. I just saw Southside two nights ago at the Hard Rock in South Florida and he and the band were fantastic. The last time I saw the Jukes live was in 1981 and they are just as good as ever. They don't come this far south often and it was a real pleasure seeing one of the best, true to the music, bands around.

Great song. The older one grows, the line about "raising a glass to the comrades we've lost" takes on a new personal meaning. This song, performed by Bruce, Southside Johnny, and Stevie evokes much about our lives---regardless if we ever had a band or not. Terrific tune by an unforgettable group of New Jersey guys---and this tribute is from a Pittsburgh guy who has seen Bruce, Southside, and company numerous times.

I have no soul (there is no god) but this song is godlike if only god were not so malevolent in the good books, both damn books. Which he is but few really understand the dogma and deeds of the good books. God's vengeance is on display in the good books. Ever really read the entire bible? “The gods we’ve made are exactly the gods you’d expect to be made by a species that is about half a chromosome away from the chimpanzee.” - Christopher Hitchens The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobia, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully. In the New Testament he gets worse.
@oppothumbs1

@@matteg490 Imaginary God was a vindictive as hell. And Jesus is more punishing than bastardy god. He believed and liked the idea of eternal punishment or never spoke out against it. Infinite torture for you. His criteria for getting into heaven is contemptible, disgusting - believe in me, that’s all it takes. A close reading of the Old Testament is filled with horrendous lessons on how to treat people. A god that kills almost everyone on Earth in a flood: that’s pretty crazy. A god that commands Joshua to murder all the women and children except for the young girls, who can be taken as sex slaves. The 10 commandments tell you that working on Saturday is a sin and the .first four commandments are vanity plate for god. God eventually goes into great detail about how to deal with cattle thieves, isolating women on their period, and which fabrics to wear at the same time; but nowhere in those ten commandments, or in the six hundred and three that come after it, does it say “Don’t abuse children,” or “Don’t enslave people,” or “Don’t rape.” The Bible was written by human beings at a time when stealing a person’s livestock was a crime punishable by death, but raping a young girl was easily remedied by following it up with a marriage proposal. Jesus cleaned it up but still believe in Hell for moral non-believers (atheists are as moral as believers .. look it up in any scientific study). Jesus and religion is a shakedown; I got matches and you're flammable.
