yes indeed .. hearing Bach played like this is a pleasure .. succinct as though the player already knows the answer .. with the notes always trying to catch up with each other .. then a break to leave room for dessert .. and bam the point is already made .. no need to ponder .. the message has already been received .. so complete thanks Ivo r gremo

Absolutely marvelous playing. Also a little too fast a first movement for my taste too, but at this level of perfection one can only call it a personal preference, nothing more. It easily rivals Glenn Gould and the only issues are who is closer to the composer's wishes, and who does one's taste prefer, period. For those who fault this playing or rate it inferior to others, I can only wonder what it is they are hearing, or perhaps not hearing. As Martha Argerich exclaimed when she walked out in disgust on the jury that voted Pogorelich down for political purposes of that time, he is a genius!

David Footerman bach had no wishes!!!!! All markings on scores today are edition based only and based off tradition of playing. Bach’s manuscripts had the basic time signatures, notes and rhythms and nothing more. Amazing stuff!

well if you are basing this being too fast on Gould's performance then you have to remember he was renowned for being a bit odd when it came to playing piano such as having to have his special playing seat for performances and the way he sat and getting up half way through performances and just going off and singing under his breath while playing but most of all for playing fast Bach slow and slow Bach fast so if he played it slow it is most likely meant to be played fast

Horowitz was the king Scarlatti player. The powerful Mikhail Pletnev plays Scarlatti a fine style.I like more Andrei Gavrilov The Bach Goldberg variations most. Also Bach concerto d minor Tatajana Nikolaeva the furious fierce version is the best.Andrei Gavrilov a record Bach d minor with Neville Marriner and St.Martin in the field is a great one.Edwin Fischer plays too Bach d minor concerto better than Gould.Gould is his best Chopin sonata no 3 and Beethoven the tempest no 17 sonata.
