Just bought this air brush today and enjoyed your review. I have never used an air brush before and stood there at the case for quite awhile before choosing this one. I had watched other reviews on KZitem before and they pretty much suggested a dual action airbrush, but I am 63, and watching the people pull that lever back with the index finger made my hand hurt just watching them. The trigger sold me and since I am new at this it sounds like it will work perfectly for me.

+Thomas Aliotta It's a brilliant little starter brush and a useful all rounder bud. My wife has many disabilities and out of the various brushes we have this is by far the most comfortable one for her to use. It doesn't allow you just as much control as the dearer Iwata's brushes, but even then its often the brush that I reach for over our dearer brush. Hopefully you find it as good and useful as we do.

Good review! I was not aware of this airbrush until just a few weeks ago (I dont think it was marketed in the USA until recently). If I hadnt bought a Grex Tritium, I probably would have purchased one of these. I'm almost 60 and my hands really appreciate the pistol grip style. I'm suggesting to folks looking for the first or upgrade airbrush (and sending them links to this review)

orangelion03 Thank you for the nice comments bud. Yeah I believe its European launch was ahead of that of its US launch. It's not just an excellent starter brush, it's a really handy all rounder. Half the time I am reaching for this over my much higher grade Iwata HP-C. Don't get me wrong the HP-C is a better brush, it can do much finer detail and has more control, but taking that into account the TRN1 is still superb. My other half has quite a few disabilities and this brush is so much easier for her to use simply because of the pistol grip. It gives enough control for both the beginner and the more accomplished airbrusher.

Firstly, great video. Secondly I want one! Yet another solid review, I have to explore the difference PSI makes, don't think I have touched my dial since I got my compressor. The added bonus is thus looks like a kirk era phaser pistol and for that reason alone, I'm in.

Thank you bud. Not everyone adjusts PSI, but I certainly need to. As I said in the vid, I am not the greatest airbrusher out there. In fact most people who watch this vid will be better with the tool than I am. However, I have found adjusting the PSI and working with brush it allows me to pull of far superior finishes that I couldn't do staying at the one pressure. Some terrific airbrush artists I have watched on KZitem NEVER adjust their PSI, but I do not have the control of those guys so adjusting the PSI gives me some of that. It does look like an original series phaser a bit doesn't it. Pew, Pew, sshhhzzzt! ;) Its a good solid brush that is very forgiving and comfortable to use. Not as much control as a higher end Iwata brush, but way more control than any other single action or trigger brush that I have had a chance to play with. :D

Dope, thanks for the review! This helped me a lot. I'm looking for my first airbrush, and at first I was looking at the old Neo Gravity but now I think this trigger will be easier for me to use like you said, even though the price is a little bit higher. Takes a little bit of intimidation out of it for me. :)

Sweet, glad the video helped you out. I'm still picking this up just about as often as I pick up my dearer Iwata HP-C. Don't get me wrong the HP-C is a better brush, but the TRN1 is just so comfortable to use I still often reach for it first.

Thanks for your video. I have a few questions. I'm looking for a great brush that I can use (comfortably) to paint medium size models (Tamiya 1:12 scale F-1's). I have a Renegade Krome for the finer detail and a Paache VL that I use for the grunt work. The thing is, I find at times that I tend more time on concentrating on trying to get the air to paint mixture correct, then watching what I'm doing on the model, just can't get comfortable. I enjoyed what you stated about the Iwata and especially the comfort in the trigger gun setup. Thanks also for your samples. I use a lot of Alclad II for the metal appearance in the kit. As to the questions. 1) would your recommend this airbrush for my need to cover larger areas such as body panels and 2) what needle sizes are included with the gun. Again, many thanks for your video. Cheers and all the best, Glenn....

Sorry about the reply brother. My computer has been dead and I'm still catching up on all my emails. Its a great little brush. Mythril loves it. With her disabilities she struggles to airbrush for any length of time with our other brushes, but the hand grip on this allows her to use it far, far longer. It doesn't have as much control as my Iwata HP-C, but its a good all round brush with better control than say my Chinese knock offs.

Great review! Thank you! I am an artist who works a lot with canned air. I find that to be very expensive, so I am looking for something similar. I'm not familiar with airbrushes. Without paint in this airbrush, does the trigger on it work like canned air (the more you pull the trigger, the faster the speed and pressure of air)?
@SquidgyBidgey
9 жыл бұрын
+Elizabeth Tynan Hi Elizabeth. Yeah canned air is silly expensive to use. Not quite as you describe it. The further you pull back the trigger, the deeper the needle is pulled into the airbrush which allows more paint to flow through the brush (this does however also increase the width of the dispersal pattern). To increase or decrease the air flow you adjust the pressure on your compressor up or down. So overall you have a lot more finesse in how you adjust air flow and paint dispersal compared to canned air. When it comes to compressors there are an awful lot to choose from on the market, but they are as important in your set up as the actual brush you use, possibly even more so, as this is the power unit that allows you to actually paint. Some things to consider when choosing a compressor are : Tanked or tankless (tanked compressors allow a smoother airflow), noise level, oiled or oilless compressor. There are many other things to consider, but these are probably the most important. I use this compressor Iwata Studio Series Smart Jet. this vid gives a useful review of it: kzitem.info/news/bejne/woJstWeAoYuCiag

Just as easy as any other airbrush bud. Pretty much, you've cleaned one brush, you've cleaned them all. Yes parts may attach differently, but the basic internal design is largely the same, thus the cleaning process remains the same across nearly every airbrush my friend.

I recently purchased one of these, my hands are weak and I thought it would work better for me as compared to my Badger Patriot. I'm struggling to get the TRN1 to work properly. I'm using normal acrylics found at most stores like Walmart. I use water as a thinner. My Badger has no problems at all with these paints but the TRN1 has trouble spraying the paint. My question is how thin was the paint you used in this video. I generally use 20PSI but did lower the pressure to 10PSI for the TRN1. Thanks for any help.
@SquidgyBidgey

+Norlin68 Hey bud I thin all my paint to a "skimmed milk" consistency if that makes sense. I mix it in a throwaway style shot glass, after thinning if you tilt the cup to an angle the paint will run down the side and only leave the very thinnest skin of paint on the cup wall that you can easily see through. Take some skimmed milk and look at the how thin it is and the skin it leaves on glass and that is the thickness you are looking for after thinning your paint. I have a feeling the paints you are talking about are craft paints, which are not only very thick, but have very large pigments. The larger pigment makes it more problematic for airbrushing. With thick pigmented paints, I strain them through a pair of ladies tights / nylons using a pipette, after I have thinned them, to take out the largest parts of pigment that could block your brush. I tend to use proprietary thinners rather than water, because water both separates the paint from its binder and doesn't help break down the pigment. Thus leaving room for potential blockages of your brush (any brush). I can't remember off hand what brand of paint I will have shot through this on the video, but it will either be ComArt, Vallejo or Lifecolor thinned using their proprietary thinners My wife has various disabilities and of all our brushes this is the one works best for her, as the handle grip is the most comfortable for her and allows her to airbrush for substantially longer periods before muscle weakness sets in. I normally brush at pressures anywhere around 16 to 30 psi, but have used as low as 10 psi across all my brushes. The brush itself is certainly capable across all those pressures. Hope this is of help. Any other questions feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer them.

+Squidgy Bidge , Thanks for the information. I'll try some of the remedies you recommended. I just couldn't understand why my Badger had no issues with these craft paints thinned with water but the Neo did. Much appreciated.
@SquidgyBidgey

+Norlin68 To be fair. I'm not sure either. Basically what I've listed is exactly what I do no matter what brush I'm using. Prior to do doing that, I had various problems with blockages etc. Once I started all of the above I almost never have an issue with brush I use. Have you ran the brush with just water in the cup to see if their is deeper issue. If it struggles with just water, then it has an issue somewhere. If it works fine just spraying water, then it has to be down the the thinning of the paint or the type of paint.
@Norlin68

+Squidgy Bidge , I sure have tried the water only and it has no problems with that. So you may have hit on the problem, the craft style acrylic paint I'm using. I have to travel about 30 miles to find a store that carries airbrush paints, whereas the Walmart is only 5 miles. But if that's what's needed then I suppose I need to make a trip. thanks for getting back.

+Norlin68 Before buying any else, strain your craft paint after thinning and see if that works for you. It could very solve the problem. Pretty much any paint can be put through an airbrush, it just takes more work for some than others.

Its only just out in the UK. I don't know what Iwatas worldwide release schedule is, but my guess would be at a minimum it would have come out at the same time in the US, possibly even before a UK release date.

I only saw a small paint spread so can it spray miniatures with a larger spread as you pull the airbrush back?
@SquidgyBidgey
11 жыл бұрын
I am sorry I am not quite sure of your meaning. So if I answer this incorrectly just ask me again. The airbrush is capable of lines from about 0.3mm up to 25mm quite easily through pulling back further on the trigger. The further back you then take the airbrush from the object/mini you are painting the wider that dispersal of paint can then be, but it becomes more of a fade. Taking your brush further away from the object/mini still allows you paint your mini/object but creates more a gradient of colour. Hope that answered your question.
@makureturns8939

***** Thanks for replying, I'm sorry I didn't word that question very well. So is this a basic summary of what you said, Pulling back on the trigger increases the radius of the spray & moving the airbrush further or closer towards the model will produce a gradient in the color. Is this correct?
