I've owned this airbrush for 7 years. No issues what so ever using many different types of hobby medium. Tamiya, Vallejo Model Air, Testors Acryl and Testors enamels. This year however, I started to have issues with it clogging, spitting etc. I've replaced the nozzle and the o rings and needle. It's just worn out. But....for a hundred bucks, 7 years isn't a bad run. I ordered a new one and hope to get as many miles out of it. I have a few other Iwata air brushes, such as the HP CS and the HP C Plus. The Revolution CR is my go to airbrush for models. I really only use the other two for extreme fine line detail. I would recommend the Revolution CR to any model builder. It's just that good.....and the price....I just paid 98.00 USD on Amazon. Can't beat it.

I had my iwata revolution for 15 years and still going strong. I agree with Robert. I have the hp-c plus for finer work but it is rare. The Iwata revolution is the best airbrush for under 100 dollars.

I just ordered this for myself for christmas this year, and I am excited to use it as an all around workhorse, and the price which is similar to what you paid on Amazon is a good starting point for a quality airbrush.

Best airbrush ever! The basic idea behind it is that it's multipurpose. Thin lines, thick lines, priming - no matter which type of work you perform, the end result is just amazing! Reliable as an AK-47!

I have an Iwata CS 0.35 (first airbrush) and a Harder Steenback Infinity (0.15 and 0.40). As to pure quality of brush, I agree, Iwata is excellent, Quality wise Iwata holds ground against an HS brush in my opinion (even at a 1/3 the price). I like both brushes though for different reasons. The Iwata in my opinion is harder to clean and tear down. For example, if I want to just soak the AB body, on the Iwata I need a special tool to get the airvalve out as opposed to the HS where it just unscrews off. On the Iwata you need wrenches but with HS you only need fingers. The larger needle does give better performance on those thicker primers (like vallejo). My only complaint about both brushes and this may be just my ignorance, is in both, I could brush a pot of blue paint, then flush thoroughly, but still after full flush can get blasts of blue from behind the cup.entry point from the body Flushing again seems clear, then just blasting air (full pull back) I can get a little blue again. Pulling the needle shows that paint has gone up the body to the needle pack. This small amount of paint is almost impossible to flush. For me I have to break down entirely between colors. I did notice that on the larger needle Iwata, I could keep flushing and eventually this would clear, but on the small needle HS I had to remove the needle to clean that small area behind the cup and after the packing (I have no idea what that space would be called :)

Cheers for the really helpful & informative video, man! I was given an Iwata Revolution as a gift over 10 years ago, and I'm ashamed to say it's been sitting in its box unused all this time! Now I'm getting back into painting minis and making my first attempts at airbrushing and I agree it's very forgiving and seems absolutely perfect for a beginner like me. Keep up the good work and stay safe! 👍⚔️

I own one of these and it's been my go to airbrush and work horse for over a year now. The only time I've had trouble with the trigger sticking was from not cleaning the airbrush well enough. I use it for priming, base coating and zenith highlighting. I started with it and now feel comfortable enough to move on to more precise models (I have a Sotar 20/20 I purchased during an Amazon sale). I think it's a good learner model. Just mind that when you're learning to airbrush you're going to learn a lot about the care, cleaning, and maintenance of not just the gun but the compressor and hoses and attachments as well.

Benn Smith I agree bud paint thinning is really important on some airbrushes. Not so much on this particular airbrush as it was spraying undiluted polyurethane primer as it has a large needle nozzle. perfect for the beginner user who struggle with paint thinning. Also great for wide paint spray patterns.

What exit pressure it have ? My NEO CN for IWATA 0,35 have a low exit pressure which prevents the formation of a rough paint surface. Maybe the ECLIPSE CS does the same !

I use a 5 gallon portercable with a regulator and 2 moisture traps, I have had 2 cheap on demand compressors and they both died, at about 65$ each I said screw it and bought a real compressor for 150$, I can spray for a very long time without it tripping on, but it is very loud when it does.

Is the Revolution BR better for minis than the CR? the BR seems to be the one reccommended on airbrushes.com site. Thanks
@OrcPainterNerd

Cyborg Badger I personally feel the cr is better for the beginner as it's much more forgiving on paint thinning and spraying heavy paints like varnish and primer. I gave my CR away to a friend and he loves it. The br is better at super fine detail but as you can see from this video you can still get pretty fine detail. Hope this helps.

Depends on what you're going to use your airbrush for. I use the Iwata that's reviewed above and I paint scale models (military aircraft, semi trucks and trailers). I bought a 1/8 hp tankless Paasche with a moisture trap (trap is very important) and it works great and is pretty darn quiet. Some folks recommend one with a tank, but I haven't noticed any difference (I used to have one with a tank) other than the compressor is pretty much on the entire time you're spraying, versus having a tank that refills based on your usage. After that, it's getting to know your paints. Primers are generally thicker and spray better at a higher psi (20-30), thinner acrylic paints, I spray between 15-20 psi. Get a reliable compressor (not some no-name off of EBay) with a moisture trap, anywhere from 1/5 to 1/8 hp and you should be good to go.

Just got this in the mail today, so very stoked! A couple of weird things though - I bought it from Overstock.com - the salesperson on the phone said it was new. Has the hologram on the outer box. But when I opened it, there was no ten-year guarantee. Instead there was a piece of white paper and a spray pattern of black swirls on it. :-( Also, the trigger mechanism seemed to be completely loose, as in not functioning, till I unscrewed the back, then loosened and re-tightened the adjusting barrel. Hope it works -it's a bit of an investment for me!

I have an Iwata Eclipse HP-CS, let me say this. It works great...WHEN it works! Very temperamental. The trigger DOES STICK...ALOT. Expert model airbrushers even state this. Truth is, I get as good a quality from my Harbor Freight airbrush kit or even better quality than the iwata. the secret is in mixing the paint and airflow! My opinion...

Surreal Sculptures I own a commission painting service and we use Iwata exclusively. After many years of struggling with other brands. After 3 years we've never had any issues and they maintain their quality, accuracy. We wouldn't use anyone else now. But I understand sometimes it's the luck of the draw.

Surreal Sculptures I'm completely the oposite mate. I have experienced cheap chinnese airbrushes and they was awful. My iwata eclipse CS airbrush is beautiful to use. I have not had a problem with my trigger and I have had it a couple of years now. I agree that paint ratios is important but I find my iwata atomizes paint so well it's more forgiving than other brands. This is just my own personal experiences.

Agreed, luck of the draw. A few videos from Stan Winston, Steve Wang and another airbrush artist (can't remember his name) BOTH commented on their Iwata sticking (right on the instructional video, I have a copy). Although Steve actually learned to use that, if it sticks, he doesn't have to strain his finger holding down the trigger. But...still...
