J.K. Rowling, the famous author of Harry Potter, has once again launched attacks, this time directed at actors Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, who portrayed Harry Potter and Hermione Granger respectively, for disagreeing with her opinions on transgender people.
During an interview with a portal, Rowling, without naming names, criticized those who disagreed with and publicly distanced themselves from her, such as Radcliffe and Watson. The author expressed that those horrified by her position often fail to understand how truly despicable she finds them. She also mentioned that she hasn't seen any debate become the slogan of those who once presented themselves as defenders of free speech.
Rowling says she is witnessing supposedly progressive men arguing that women do not exist as an observable biological class and do not deserve rights based on biology.
When asked if she expects an apology from Radcliffe and Watson, Rowling vented, saying that celebrities who joined a movement aiming to end women's hard-earned rights and used their platforms to celebrate the transition of minors can save their apologies for traumatized people who have detransitioned and for vulnerable women in single-gender spaces.
These comments are not new to Harry Potter fans. In fact, the author's stance on the transgender population has divided the fandom for years, to the point where some readers and viewers have stopped consuming content related to the series as a form of boycott, while others defend Rowling's statements.
