2ft gauge for small, outdated steel mill with steam engines, steam locomotives. That seen small rolling mill stand, a ladle car for pig/cast iron or a slag resemble kindergarten size. Real modern prime steel mill has all electrical machinery and thousands of employees. Runs 1524mm or 1520mm gauge own company's railroad for a huge steelworks plant with complete process (all 3 process cycles present) prime steel mill gets service from many dozens of shunting (for maneuvers, not for mainline!) diesel locomotives. Consists of the few main and many auxiliary departments with the huge industrial buildings and supportive infrastructure. Where's just yearly output in millions tons of ready hot-rolled steel products: structural steel: assortment of different profiles such as angular, round, etc; various structural beams: I-shaped, C-shaped, re-bars, etc; various tracks: RR, tram's, crane's, narrow gauge tracks, etc ; steel solid hot-rolled wire and many more. That what China and Russia have now. Where's America's former industrial power? Vintage newsreels keep memories of much better days.

Those a huge shaft bearing pillows and other parts may belong to a huge reloading gantry crane's one of four main traction mechanism (transmissions) on each pylons or crane's main trolley's one of two traction mechanism (transmissions). Those gantry cranes have their bridge attached to the four main pylons which run on multiple wheels on each pylon above a ore yard-a huge rectangular shape pit-storage of bulk materials, outdoor. The main trolley moves on top of bridge's main joists on its own wheels and tracks, attached to joists. On the bottom of each of four pylons the main traction mechanism (transmission) located with multiple wheels roll on track or even double tracks-dually wheels, because of the weight distribution on each pylon. The main trolley has the main winch and a smaller, always two additional auxiliary winches with hook suspensions for maintenance/repair tasks on the ground equipment and its own main traction mechanisms. Bridge has an overhead structural trasses and beams as a regular span bridge, where above and parallel to the main trolley runs a smaller utility bridge (overhead) crane with its own small trolley and with the smaller two winches, main lift and auxiliary lift (always for different lift capabilities) with hook suspensions for repair/maintenance of the main trolley itself (change trolley's wheels, tracks, gear boxes, electric motors, shafts, cable drums, etc.). Bridge has a cantilever section on both sides to let main trolley to move above the bottom of pylon area, where the main four traction mechanisms are. Those four main traction mechanisms require repair/maintenance too (change wheels, tracks, gear boxes, shafts, electric motors, etc.). The main four mechanisms move crane from one end to another end of the pit. The main winch operates a huge bucket or clamshell with a volume of a railroad bulk car. Metalworkers call that bucket the shoe. The main users of a huge reloaders are prime steel mills to feed their blast furnaces. Blast furnaces produce pig iron and cast iron. Usually, a several reloader cranes operate with the same pit, one reloader crane per each blast furnace. Total height of such gizmos is about 90m or 300ft. Total span of the crane (included two cantilever sections) is about 200m or 660ft. The utility bridge crane, operated by same crane operator as the reloader crane. Such big parts may belong to another huge casting bridge (overhead) crane's bridge traction mechanism (transmission). Two traction mechanisms one on each side of bridge move crane from one end to another end of the building. Those huge bridge cranes run instead of pylons on a wall beams or under crane supports-concrete structures with tracks attached to them. Bridge runs between two walls on wheels above the on-floor equipment, indoor in the huge industrial building-smelter. Bridge's wheels roll on tracks and tracks attached to the concrete beams-under crane supports. Bridge has two steel sides (joists) on which the main trolley runs on its own wheels and tracks. Always such cranes have a smaller additional auxiliary trolley which runs parallel and below to the main trolley but upon an additional auxiliary bridge (steel beams) parallel to main sides (joists) of bridge. Auxiliary bridge runs between the multicable of main hook suspension. The main trolley carries the main winch, which operates a huge hook suspension with crossbar and two hooks. An additional auxiliary trolley carries, always two smaller winches for main lift and auxiliary lift with single hook suspensions on each for maintenance/repair tasks on different equipment on the production floor. For repair/maintenance of all casting cranes itself, usually two a smaller utility bridge (overhead) crane moves in parallel direction in the same span of the building, but slightly above the casting cranes. The main winch of the casting crane only task is to carry around a huge steel-clad ladle with brick lining inside for molten steel. That huge ladle pours molten steel into a special machine to make a steel billets for further processing. The lifting capability of the main winch is up to 400 metric tons or 881,850 lbs. The main users of a casting bridge cranes are prime steel mills. In the smelter, usually a several casting cranes operate in the same span of the building, one casting crane per smelting unit. The total height from the floor to the highest point on main trolley can be 40-50m or165ft. Total span of the crane ~ building span can be 30-40m. The utility bridge cranes, operated by any crane operator in the facility.

Can somebody tell to that kettle, the 58 that she´s far too noisy for her size. May be she never met her standard gauge sisters. That would kill her superiority complex for ever once for all. Her bell crystal sound, echoing whistle, fury of power when throttle is open...then you see that diminutive dwarf mini tiny 0-4-0.... Wow !!! She´s may be O scale, but what a symphony for the ears, pure joy. One of the best sounding steamer i have ever heard ! Can´t imagine what she would sound if she had eated more coal to grew up... Thanks for that gorgeous trip. It really worth it.
