I don't understand chinese language but in my personal opinion everything here is beautiful. This language, this outfits and this culture. Greetings from Poland my chinese friends. 🇵🇱❤️🇨🇳.🙂
Through hesitation, indecision and hard struggle the queen here reveals to all of us a truth Shakespeare or even Homer never did have the courage to reveal: a woman's final love is on her son even at the cost of her father's death and the loyalty of the most courtly servant is for himself in the long run! What a grand opera, theme, plot and artistic presentation few today really can understand. This is China's national treasure!

This is really, really good! Beyond the feeling to describe! Western oper singers often torrent out the sound and voice while Chinese opera singers chew and control them and spell them out in perals of music and emotion in the most profound and artistic way!

yes, you may, indeed! In term of metaphors, similes, symbols and performance sophistication, Chinese opera leads the world. Many Chinese opera singers have gone through decade of training throughout childhood to perfect their art ! Just listen to the sound, the pauses, the winding pitches, the twists and prolongation of their voice you will find they are loaded with meanings.

David Lee good learns. Dv Lee understand chinese culture.
So we have two versions here for Second To Palace by Wang and Lee and by Yu and Lee Shen suh, the latter of whom, in China's modern opera world, have been considered as "institutions", the heir apparent to the Mei school. This one is a recent performance as Shen-suh seems to lose some of her tenderness of voice but still phenomenal! They are all great! But Lee yen has caught my heart on her mannerism and Wang's performance was lso up par.Over all they are both national treasures! Thanks!

If you understand Lee shen-suh's life, then you know that nobody can present this sense of melancholy, anxiety, confusion and isolation than she can in China. But it takes very sympathetic ears ad skill tp perceive and interpret! She is my heroine!

This is Peking opera and all faces are hand painted. Maybe Chuan Opera (from Sichuan) would be closer to the art form you’re referring to? There’s a lot more emphasis on dancing and lots of masks :) Peking opera has four main elements and dance is only one of them, and characters with heavily painted faces is only one of the four main roles (three featured in this skit). Either way I’ve always found Indian dance extremely expressive and effective in narrating stories. I have lots of friends from South India and have been to a few dance graduation recitals.

Yes, the play is based on historical story. Baby emperor is in danger to be deprived power by his grandfather (mother side). Emperor’s mother begs two cabinet members (secretary of defense and chairman of chief of staffs) to kill her own father to save his son’s fate. Full of drama, twist and turns. Very beautiful poetic classic Chinese lyrics with references to historical events. Peking Opera is considered the highest art form of Chinese opera. The fan base are generally highly educated. There are many local operas in every region. Those are considered ‘provincial’ opera because provincial operas lack the sophistication in every aspect from lyrics, melodies, costumes, different role cast specialties.

Friends, this is our national tresure and I hope we can all cultivate ourselves into an understanding and appreciation of Chinese opera. There is no opera in the world that can match Chinese opera in term of sophistication and complication and in the field of artistic ramfications, the use of melody, metaphors, similes, comparisons and contrasts exceed Shakespeare by far!

Therefore, being good involves not absolute "good" but a large percentage of it in the mix-up. Such perception was only realized in the west in the 20th century in Nathniel Hawthorne's "Scarlet Letter" or Meville's "Moby Dick". The Chinese thinking has become the westerns' mainstream now. Yes, they have learned from us in the culture's deep-core transformation but few realize that unless they have studied the evoltion of consciousness in the west and east.Chinese opera is way way ahead! Then again westerners have learned from Chinese culture and civilization! The Christianity heritage basically involves in good-evil polarities which do not compmise. Western thought has followed this mainstream. Please notice, for example, in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Darcy can not move away from "pride". Chinese culture has stressed reconciliation of polarities, Yin versus Yang, where realities exist in a complex form of co-existence, also representing the modern physics atom theorem.
