This is the ovation that follows the wild dance scene following the "Bruderlein und Schwesterlein" chorus. Carlos Kleiber always omitted the ballet that Strauss placed at this point and substituted the Strauss polka "Under Donner und Blitz." It provided the choreographer an opportunity for a major production number to keep the scene from dragging.

+dizzyology NO! Kleiber was always playing the balett-scene or "Unter Donner und Blitz". Every time,. when he conducted this operetta.

That's exactly what I said above. "Kleiber always omitted the ballet that Strauss placed at this point and substituted the Strauss polka "Unter Donner und Blitz." How is that statement incorrect?

Maybe I could say it another way. Kleiber always included the dance scene in Act 2 of Fledermaus. The original score has music for a ballet at this point, which Kleiber thought was too slow and uninteresting. Instead of using that music for the dance, Kleiber always substituted "Unter Donner und Blitz." And in his advice to conductor Charles Barber, who was preparing a production of Fledermaus, Kleiber recommended the same solution, which Barber followed.

This way it's right. But look at other conductors from "The Bat" they aren't conducting the ballet or "Unter Donner und Blitz", so I think, the Kleiber-Version is the best!

I agree -- I like Kleiber's Bat the best.
