Dr Jac Saorsa is a visual artist, writer and researcher in creative art practice. She holds a PhD in philosophy and contemporary drawing practice which she completed at Loughborough University in 2004. Since then she has taught in universities in Costa Rica, Cyprus and Portugal and she is currently Lecturer in Drawing at Cardiff Metropolitan University. Narrating the Catastrophe: An Artist’s Dialogue with Deleuze and Ricoeur, Intellect Books is her latest book, published by Intellect in November 2011. In the video featured above, Jac is interviewed about the book by fellow artist Charlotte Knox-Williams.
Jac’s current research involves a collaboration with the Cardiff Medical School. The ‘Drawing Cancer’ project forms part of a wider research trajectory that involves the interpretation and expression through visual art practice of the biomedical relation between human and plant morphology and physiology in terms of clinical intervention, and patient experience of disease. The primary aim is to engender, through a creative and philosophical interpretation of scientific intervention and human experience, a deeper consciousness of the human-plant relation as it pertains to physiological and emotional health.
