Jack can hit the ball more than 300 yards with sort of "inferior equipment" 40 years ago.
@texastownzbringingyouthetr5132

You are exactly right and among the inferior equipment was the golf ball itself. During the heart of his career he played a wound ball; the thin balata covered MacGregor tourney. He could only hit it so far but its design was about maximizing control and spin.

Jack in the 60s had the best action. Particularly the early 60s. Can't say that in the 70s though, his sequencing was off. Kind of got it back in the mid 80s, but this action here which I think if from the Shell WSOG against Snead was amazing. You can easily see why Hogan made that comment at Cherry Hills when they played together.

What a great swing. I love how players back then used their legs in the swing. I don't lift my front foot like Jack but I do come off my back foot the same way. So it's good to know it's definitely not wrong, it's just not in vogue these days. Everyone keeps those feet on the ground till contact it seems and its just hard for me to change that and i dont plan to.

The Goat would dominate today's game just like he did back then if he were a young man today. The only challenger would be Tiger in his prime and they would have had some unbelievable duels. The field would win maybe a major every year or two, and Tiger and Goat would divy up to the rest. Sidenote, the field would feel fortunate for the one they would win from time to time.

Wrong. He wouldn’t have a single remote prayer of winning 18 majors today. Back then, Jack had far less total competition to worry about. Today, the world number 150 can get hot for a week and win a major. In Jack’s day the world number 150 would never compete with the top guys. Far, far more shallow fields in Jack’s day. No one will ever win ten majors again because the fields are too deep and it is simply harder to win. You don’t have to beat 10 guys capable of winning like in Jack’s day..you need to beat 100.
