The year 1928 was a most important one for Jack Payne. It had only been a few short years since he was leading a band at a seaside hotel, from which he progressed to a major London venue - the Hotel Cecil. Still under thirty he had secured the coveted position of leader of the first official BBC Dance Orchestra.
Jack Payne made his first broadcast in March 1928. Due to protracted negotiations between the BBC and Columbia, he did not begin recording until June. There would be eight recording sessions which produced two 12 inch and eleven 10 inch records.
These are shared in the order they were recorded with the first two from the initial BBC Dance Orchestra recording session.
