His driving is imperfect. And it makes this scene pretty good.

That moment when you realize this chase is better than all Fast & Furious series ones combined.

Watching that chevelle get all banged up is painful

The imperfectness of the driving, the stalling of the car and the gritty sound effects makes this feel plausible. The convenience of his final escape is far fetched but you forgive it in favor of style. Tom's movies over this past decade are criminally underrated.

I love how this scene just pays tribute to the classic bullit car chase scene. No music, just the sound of engines!

The sound of that engine IS the music for the scene.

Stalling the car after he comes out the tunnel wasn't scripted.

Love this car chase. McQuarrie is an underrated action director, kind of old school. Which is a good thing. It's a great to see a modern movie where the car chase seems to have been thought through on a shot by shot basis, and not just cobbled together in the editing room from a random mess of cuts. It's always clear where everything is in relation to the world around it, making the action easy to follow, but no less thrilling because of it. Knuckleheads like Olivier Megaton could learn a thing or two about directing from this scene.

McQuarrie is the king of modern cinematic car chases. Almost all of his films contain at least one memorable car chase. This is clearly no exception.

I love this scene. To me this feels like a more realistic chase compared to stuff like the Bourne movies, which are still awesome. Also love how the bystanders ever so casually help him out. Made me laugh.

One of the best chase scenes in recent action movie history. God I love how Reacher's car purrs.

Reminds me of the Bullitt chase scene. No music, no special effects, just pure driving skill. Well, that and a few event similarities. That is a fine automobile, and it's always difficult to see such a machine banged up, but real chases are what the cinematic world needs.

This has to be one of my favorite car chases in the film industry to date. Right up there with Steve McQueen in Bullitt, Gone in 60 Seconds (both of them), White Lightning, Cobra and Ronin.
