That smart looking bald guy is my dad! Mike O'Connor! Well done pops. Mike was instrumental in building the Expo line, and ran BC Transit for a while. He was then asked to build the Canada Line in the lead up to the 2010 Olympics. One of these days they are going to need to name a station after him :) Proud of you dad!

Love it! This was a segment of a TV Show just after Vancouver's first Subway/ALRT system was up and running just before the World's Fair of 1986. I was a great fan of the man whom I thought was the best News Broadcaster in BC. I first listened to him on the Radio then he joined local BCTV Station in Burnaby. (now Global Network). He was a blunt and strong but still had impeccable manners. He was a mentor to so many young journalists. What I particularly liked in this video was the politeness and respect people generally had for others, certainly the patience and respect they had for journalists. Also the class and manners of the journalists themselves. For all you younger people who have grown up in an increasingly rude and loud society constantly displayed in public, especially in June 2020, this is a good example of what life was like, at least in Vancouver, BC. Sit back & enjoy.

Webster suggested if they installed turnstiles, they will be able to get an accurate count. It took translink 30 years to finally install gates and stop the free riding. The executive said the system can load cars to accommodate for mass build up of riders from events. They never add additional trains during expo. After fireworks, a huge crowd would be waiting outside the station. Takes over an hour to get onto the platform. RIP Jack Webster, we miss you.
