Sun was seen a little different in the 1960s. At that time, we used mayonnaise, mineral oil, and baby oil, to get a suntan. Sometimes we'd burn for the tan after it healed. It wasn't until the mid-1970s there was a mention of spf. Then Coppertone and Banana Boat has spf 2 and 4. Copper tone had an spf 8. It was the early 1980s before there was an spf 15. Now we know better, so we can do better. 🙂

Laura, love all things Jackie, you did a great job. Jackie was a class act symbolizing beauty and grace, but it also was that time in our history, that also respected beauty and grace, AND family values! It wasn't until the mid sixties, and later, that we lost ALL OF THAT! Breaks my heart, too. Even elementary teachers I had, dressed their best every day! What a great example to teach us! No one wanted to shake things up, we DID care what the "neighbors" thought. Sorta kept society in line-

@kittiesfortrump1070

Yes! Tissues were pink, baby blue soft green- cotton balls, as well! Toilet tissue, same! Women would put pastel cotton balls in large glass apothecary jars, in bathrooms or on kidney shaped vanity tables. I think someone "determined" that the dyes used could cause an irritation. Three women in my house then, no problem- many friends and family, no problem. I think women's feminity, was removed from products, on purpose. Things are not pretty like before.
@AvecPoesie
3 жыл бұрын
@@kittiesfortrump1070 I wholeheartedly agree! It seems the women's "liberation" movement made any overt displays of femininity unacceptable. It's bizarre and disheartening. I am unabashedly feminine and love pastels! You can still find pastel toilet paper online! Also, the notion that stark white products are better is absurd as those are often bleached!

I think giving up smoking two packs a day would have helped her skin tremendously ( and her inner health), as smoking ( and the sun) are the two main causes of prematurely ageing skin. JFK was a redhead ( prone to skin allergies), so the spots on his back were probably eczcema. Pinetarsol oil baths would have helped that. All that aside, I really think Jacqueline had great style and grace. Your skin looked lovely. :)

At least in the USA Phisohex was pulled from over the counter shelves by the FDA in September 1972. I remember Phisohex as well - they used to use it in doctors' offices, hospitals, etc. The reason it was pulled from OTC is because the FDA banned over the counter sales of hexachlorophene, (the main ingredient). If Jackie bought that stuff after that date she would have either needed to have had a prescription or bought it in another country that did not ban it from OTC sales. There is, however, a product called Phisoderm that is still available OTC.
