I'd sincerely suggest you try medication. I struggled so much I couldn't even go outside because of my social anxiety. I constantly worried about everything. For YEARS I lived my life that way and was too anxious to get help because what if the doctors say this, what if they make fun of me, what if I'm embarrassed, etc. Until I couldn't take it anymore. I genuinely don't know how I survived so long before my medication. I'm not saying it's a fix-it-all method, I still struggle with certain things. However, it's SO much more manageable and I could tell a difference like 2 to 3 weeks after I started it. Idk if you are like me, BUT look into reviews for the doctors before going to get a feel for their personality. They are not there to humiliate you, they are there to help you. I believed it was so much worse than it was. If you feel like chickening out, go anyway. You got this I promise ❤

Sometimes life just feels like too much to deal with. Sometimes everything is too much and you need a break. Idk maybe its just me. Its nice to be able to relate to you in a way tho. Not that relating through depression is cool cause its not but like, you're someone ill probably never be able to meet. I've wanted to meet you since i was like 11 or 12. Now im 18 bout to turn 19 so hopefully once i work the courage up and get enough money i can come meet you. I know youre just a person like me but youve helped me through the toughest times. Its not much but im here for you as well as everyone else who loves you just as dearly. This is probably my first comment ever. I know you would never see them if i did. But right now ig im just very grateful that you exist. Its almost 1 am so i should stop now. I hope to meet you one day, it would be super cool to see you in person instead of through a screen. Anyways i love your videos and i love all of the hard work you put into things you enjoy and i also love the new podcasts brain leak its nice to see Ethan included in something as well as being able to listen to you two talk about different things. The chores of starting the garden in the spring, tending it during the summer, and putting it to bed in the fall really help to stabilize mood. It even gives you something to think about during the winter with planning your next year's garden. The exercise also helps with mood stabilization. Keep up the good work.😀

I’m also pretty sure I was depressed during that time. I barely left my room. I didn’t really talk to anyone and my motivation hit rock bottom. I don’t remember much about it but I remember feeling numb or tired most of the time. 8th grade also sucked because social anxiety but I kept one friend from 6th grade. She roped me into a friend group and I didn’t have social anxiety anymore. I’m more out going but still an introvert. I also go to a different high school than them but we keep in touch. I now have a new friend group and I am a great deal happier. I still get super anxious sometimes but I don’t think I need any medication.

the seasonal depression thing i have is something i've come to link with my adhd/ocd, you come to expect a certain cycle, but when the seasons change people change their schedules, and suddenly your comfy brain cycle goes WONK, and now you're upset. a change in temperature like that can change your daily life more than people think, from clothes, food, and available activities, to even the weather affecting barometric pressure and causing pain, having dry air cause your skin to feel cracked and tight, adjusting the clock so now your sleep is an hour off. you might not even notice all of these things on their own, but when their put together it can cause a stupid amount of stress without you realizing it.

Hi Sean, I study the effect of certain neurotransmitters in correlation with hyper and hypo sensitivity towards pain and temperature changes in children on the spectrum (just mentioning this to establish a minimum of credibility because I realise that my channel's name could lead to a misunderstanding). I love your channel and have been a faithful subscriber for many many years. I've been wanting to reach out for a while now and I don't know if you'll read this comment but I have to try anyway. I strongly recommend you to check the levels of cortisol in your system, if you haven't already (it's a simple blood test). High levels of cortisol associated with low levels of dopamine can (in some cases) trigger a "cytokine storm" which leads to systemic inflammatory syndromes in your body. Basically your body is always fighting. This has also been associated with depression and anxiety. Moreover, I remember you mentioning going through long Covid and there are reliable studies linking disruptions in emotions and learning due to extensive inflammations brought on by the virus. That's all I wanted to say. You can easily verify all this online. Best of luck in your journey towards mental health and thank you for sharing this with us.

I'm sorry, Sean. My mom has this really bad. There are things people do to help mitigate this. First of all, you're not getting any vitamin D during winter in the northern hemisphere. Taking supplements will help. It's fine to get your levels tested if you're not sure. Second, full spectrum light bulbs put on a timer. One hour in the morning before sunrise, one or two hours at night after sunset. That's at least two extra hours per day. Put them wherever you spend those times. I hope things turn out well for you.
