@@BurntDisc I'm not sure I'm the best person to ask because I genuinely love all of them, as well as his first album, 'In My Room'. 🤔 They work beautifully together as a set. There's an expanding journey and learning; imagery and themes are developed; Easter eggs, references, callbacks and thoughtful transitions galore. They're technically mind-blowing, and full of Jacob's openhearted warmth and joy in humanity. If the NHS prescribed music for mental health and wellbeing, these albums would be in every pharmacy.

@hcoutts297 good to hear he's been consistent... I'm gonna steal that last line when/if I review the others! 🤣😉

You can't listen to Volume 4 for the first time again, but it's not too late to marathon all 4 volumes. Good luck. It will take some fortitude.

It’s so worth it. That was how my friends and I listened to it for the first time - coming after the first 3 volumes right as it released for us at 10pm on Leap Day (no breaks!). We had a whole party and everything, it was phenomenal! I will never forget the experience of utter joy and surprise when hearing it in context for the first time with everyone there! 🎉 I wish everyone could have that experience!

Great review and I agree 1,000%. I just discovered Jacob a few weeks ago, and I feel like my life has changed forevermore. I just saw him in concert in Philly this past Monday night, and it was EPIC beyond anything I could have imagined. Not only is he a brilliant creative genius, he is a master showman with boundless energy and joy. He has the crown in his hand from beginning to end. I was indeed like a religious experience...and I'm not even religious!

You did a georgious review of this album, and it`s exactly the way I feel about it.I first go to know him with this album, and after listening to to albums before, I must say, this one fits best for me. So many different styles in one box, great musicians and voices. It's more commercial, but I like it that way!!! It a very unique and outstanding album for me and I think for mankind. My album for this decade so far and further on..a gift from heaven. My favorites: she puts sunshine, bridge ober trouble water and world oh world!!!

I used to be a big fan of Jacob back in the day And also glazed him for being a super talented multi-instrumentalist But between the time of the release of Djesse Vol. 3 and now Vol. 4 I’ve discovered a lot of new music Music that emotionally hooked me unlike any of Jacob’s music has ever done to me Like the beauty & sadness of “Ant From Up Here” by Black Country New Road Or the thrilling excitement and jazzy weirdness of “Hellfire” by Black MIDI So over this time I reflected back on how I feel on Jacob’s previous work And honestly its thrillingness and beauty doesn’t compare to contemporaries Even though I still love his album “In My Room” and “Hajanga” remains a banger His Djesse series has just become frustrating to me So many of his songs lack focus The key changes he pulls that I ones thought of to be impressive has now become a trope as he does it in so many songs And the sound palette of especially Djesse Vol. 3 and now Vol. 4 has some real cheap moments Like “Sleeping on my dreams” or “Over you” are good examples of way to clean 2010 type commercial pop music I never thought Jacob would make after hearing his wonderful acoustic arrangement of “The road not taken” or his first song under his KZitem channel “Serendipity” with its brainfeeder like sounds And the white boy raps fast cliché he pulls of on “Count the people” and on “Over you” suck so much I hate it I can’t imagine anyone enjoying it over some real fast rap like “Can’t punk me” by JID for example I’m disappointed he uses his talents to just try to impress people with his music theory knowledge and “versatility” Which just results in him making music that constantly throws flashy things at you be that: constant key changes, generic sound bits, fast rapping 🙄, gang vocals & over the top vocal riffing So still being a fan of “In My Room” it saddens me that I couldn’t enjoy this project one bit except for maybe “100.000 voices” And when Jacob isn’t doing anything flashy on this album and instead is focusing on making something beautiful it just doesn’t connect Like “Little blue” just isn’t “Candles” by Nick Leng I’d sadly give this album a 3/10

I would kind of guess Jacob would say he was glad he made some contribution to your life and is happy you’re finding further music that means something to you. He’s obviously very young and still experimenting. And under intense scrutiny, you notice that every musician has their main themes that get repeated over and over. Not necessary to evaluate someone, OK to be grateful that they’ve shared their heart with the world - how many of us do that?- and move on if you need to.

Also worth noting that he allowed his followers and subscribers a voice on the album itself, many segments in the tracks are hundreds of us around the world. Further encompasses the idea that this is a worldwide experience

Box of Stars pt. 2 makes way more sense if you listen to track 1,2,3 and 6 from vol. 1, and 14 from vol. 2! It’s like a tension between the keys E minor and D major finally coming to a conclusion!
