..? there's a 3000 dollar stereo microphone system inside the piano, along with a pickup on the back of the soundboard and hand-built room microphones on the other side of the room! that piano is recorded properly.

This is Jacob Collier. It will definitely be deliberate. That is not to say you must like it, and idk about YT uploading and whether that might effect the mix. Jacob likes to mute his upright with a cloth sometimes, and it sounds like he might be here but that is not to say for sure as it could also just be the pedals. Also it appears to be a livestream/recording of some sort so I think by the time the sound is getting to us on KZitem there’s definitely not as much quality as I’m sure the mics would have picked up.

@@poopzak Well i dont know about you, but melody, harmony, musicality, structure are what I get vibes from when listening to a song. I dont get the same vibes here. Not saying this performance here is not intense in its own way, just dont call It a cover
@Spagneti

@@fabriziomorris5320 i'd argue making the song your own is a much better way to cover it than just copying what the original artist did, otherwise you could just listen to the original
@fabriziomorris5320

@@Spagneti dont you think there's a whole range of possibilities from merely copying the original to literally turning it upside down?
@Spagneti

@@fabriziomorris5320 i think trying to control how artists want to interpret a song is a fools errand. You don't have to like the rendition, but to say it shouldn't be done is close minded, imo.
