Not an awful lot of interest in poor old Jacques' music, is there? Pity! While he was hardly top tier (Strauss' "first class second class composer" quote comes to mind), he certainly had a sterling technique and managed to write the occasional masterpiece. The piece at hand is proof of that: The first movement may borrow heavily from Debussy (the faun is lurking behind the flute solo, the distant trumpets bring "Khamma" to mind (which was only performed in 1924) and the lush strings again remind me of the central section of the "Faune") and Ravel (the middle section has very much a "Daphnis" flair about it, n'est-ce pas?), the latter being a close friend of Ibert, but on the whole it is a solid, convincing piece of music. The finale attempts to recreate the atmosphere of Spanish festivities, but I never found it very convincing, especially not if compared to "Iberia" or the "Rhapsodie Espagnole". The second movement is hack work, as harsh as that may sound. It is as if Ibert lacked a second movement and just wrote something to be put between the other movements; very disappointing. I for one enjoy his music most of the time; it is pleasant to see the that you are giving him some exposition (or not, as the 22 views suggest). Have you thought about making a video for "La Ballade de Geôle de Reading"? It's a strong piece, although perhaps a tad too long. If not, there's also his "Hommage à Mozart", a delightful 4 minute romp of neoclassical playfulness.

I’ll look into scores for both of those! Always great to hear your takes. I share your sentiments towards the individual movements; the first has always stood out as the lushest and the most interesting to me. And I don’t think you were too harsh on the second movement at all. In all honesty, I got a little bored myself whilst editing that part of the video!

@@Protosini By the way, if you need some more ideas for videos, here are a few: There are a few E.J. Moeran scores on imslp that are without a score video, like his magnificent symphony. While we're at English composers, Peter Warlock's "The Curlew" has not been graced with a score video as of writing of this comment; a shame, since it might be his masterpiece. Besides, a composer who had a huge influence on Warlock is severely underrepresented on youtube in general: Bernard van Dieren. Just keep them in mind if you should ever find yourself in the unfortunate situation of having too much time on your hands...
