jay fine To be honest, a lot of people speak that way because they are readers, received a post-secondary education, or interact with people that speak that way. For me, it’s the education piece and I’ve taken behavioral courses. & I agree with your sentiment about just being a nice person but have you also considered that “nice” means different things to different people? That’s something that I had to realize over time. Everyone literally does not know what “just being a nice person” is. I know people that would characterize “being nice” as yelling without using curse words or mushing someone in the face. They think that restraints from violence is being nice even if they are verbally saying the most disrespectful things. Then there’s some that agree that being nice is just treating people how you want to be treated. You have to realize that someone people don’t even respect themselves so how could they ever extend respect to another person. Also to your own point, you just defined their way of speaking as “ridiculous”. Was that “nice”? I would say that it wasn’t.
@GardenedCoils
4 жыл бұрын
jay fine You’re right and thanks for the added perspective! Also, please let the record show that my feelings about Jada’s movement has shifted a bit in the past months 😂 I personally find that the language she uses may have a slight intention of manipulating others and downplaying behaviors. It doesn’t take away the breakthroughs that I have seen people have on her show but it does impact how I view her willingness to expect the same openness from herself that she tries to pull from guests. Idk how to feel altogether lol
@moderngeaisha5113
3 жыл бұрын
@jay fine so you are saying in the end it is "ridiculous" to use these words because the behaviors are already naturally inherent in the African American community? I don't see why the self help movement and the words used within it should be anything to look down upon or criticize. These very words and concepts you speak of after all, being "mindful" and being "present" stem primarily from philosophy and Buddhism, not from Oprah, much less an "Oprah-created" self-help movement. The word "empowerment" has been around and been used by many others and it is a positive concept so I'm not sure what your beef is with it exactly. Are you saying that Jada and Gabriel's use of these words is redundant? I'm not sure, but the Law of Attraction is very real, proven time again that the way we think becomes what we say becomes what we do and then becomes who we are, so any reiteration of these positive words could only be a good thing!

OMG... Unfortunately, I was that woman!!! I can boldly say God has given me a spirit of love for my sisters that can’t be explained. Again, I was that woman! I couldn’t connect with other women because I didn’t know me. I thought my STUFF defined me as a person. It took a lot of self evaluation, God, friends(my front row), and honesty for me to realize where the disconnect stemmed from. Insecurities are strong holds that will destroy you if you’re not strong enough to overcome it. Strong hold give room for Satan to play with your mind causing you to be angry at the world. It’s such a blessing to overcome those challenges and allow God to use me for his glory. Sisters you can overcome it; it’s going to take work but you can definitely do it.

Lena Lovee' You would be surprise that they really dont remember. When I was 13, I met a girl through my bestfriend back then. I knew she didnt like me and we would fued, we even fought one time. Fwd 10 years later, we ran into each other at church and she was like "girl i dont even remember why I was like that with you, I was just young and stupid." And from there I was like "You are so right I really dont understand what happened." Now we are both fine knowing if we run into each other there are no hard feelings. We've grown and we are alright. So I dont doubt if they dont remember. It could have been that silly of a feud that you dont get what happened in the first place.

From this Table Talk I don't think either one of them would use the word "won" to describe the outcome of a 17 year feud with another human who was also female, black, and a professional colleague. How could someone listen to them being so open and grateful and remorseful and validating and authentic, and get that either of them benefitted from those years of anger, jealousy, competition, and even hate. They both lost and suffered from it. And ironically their respective self-esteem and egos suffered MORE, not LESS from playing into, believing and fueling this feud. These beautiful women (now inside as well as out) seem to both have matured over the years and independently come to the same conclusion. It was silly and not at all worth it. And they had the humility and honesty and COURAGE to get together to finally end it. I'm wondering if we watched the same video.

I'm glad Gabrielle has evolved. I was her stand-in years ago on a few episodes of the show "Flashforward" and when she was hosting "The BET Honors," and she came across as really cold to me. I didn't expect us to become the best of friends, but I think it takes more energy to exhibit toxic vibes than to be courteous. It's especially sad when you see male actors being so cool and friendly towards their stand-ins on set, while female actors are being catty and rude towards theirs for no reason. Hopefully, those days are behind her.

I can relate, actually. It felt so nice to see someone be honest. It's tough when someone is younger and next in line. I feel threatened too. Even if I still like them. It's animal kingdom type stuff imho. A natural reaction that it easier to pretend not to feel and push away. But I feel it. It made me feel less alone and inspired a poem I wrote today, actually.
