If you go for an early XF make sure its been serviced regularly. The 2.7ltr is a good engine but the 3.0ltr is better. With either make sure the belts have been changed or its a real expensive job. But at the end of the day the XF is a lovely car to own and drive, good luck.

@@densalbeach1 do you still have the Portfolio? Has it been or is it a "reliable" car? How many miles on it now? How much the cost in repairs since you've owned it? I'm looking at a 2018 3.0 V6 RWD Limited fully loaded with 42,000 miles on it clean car fax for $31K. The ONLY turn off I don't like is the electronic AC vents opening & closing. I mean what was the point of Jag installing that? I live in a super hot climate & I do not need to think about that breaking & not working. It's either the Portfolio or a 2020-22 Toyota Avalon around the same mileage & price range that I end up picking from purchasing. What say you? Hope you see this & reply. Thanks.

With the two XF's and my current XJ, I have had very few mechanical problems. On two of the cars I have had to change the smaller of the two batteries that runs the stop start. You will know when this battery is going as it causes electrical errors like central locking problems, but as soon as changed its all back to normal. I have had my XJ for nearly 4 years and its been brilliant. It had 34k miles on it when I bought it, it now has 58k and a real pleasure to own and drive. I rate Jaguar very highly, my next car will probably be a Jag. Good look and let me know what you go for.

With Jags, you have to sit in one to appreciate the interior. Their interiors look bad in pictures but surprisingly good when you sit in one, I prefer it to the E-class. Something about the proportions and how it wraps around you. With pictures, you will naturally just look at the center console which in reality isn't representative of how you feel when inside.

That's your problem - You say they are buttons. You push a button - and that really will not work, not on this car. The rear seat releases in the boot roof are handles - for pulling, not pushing - to release the seats. I'm on my 3rd XFS = Two 3.0L D previous - and this latest - a 3.0L supercharged - and I wouldn't have anything else at the moment. The bad ole days of being unreliable are far far in the past. The German marques aren't any better these days to be honest.

Having driven this for a couple of days, this has the best suspension and handling in it's class by far. The BMW 3/4/5 are second best - and I own a 430d Gran Coupe. The XF is sporty and nimble for it's size, yet it soaks up bumps really well making it comfortable. The negatives are that the NVH is too high compared to the Germans, and the interior isn't quite up there.

At the end of the videos, I suggest that you do the +/- thing that you used to in previous videos. This new ending is not so good in my opinion, because the video seems to end abruptly, but the old way caters for a much smoother ending. The best would be to somehow combine the two.

Given the reliability of these cars, I wouldn't touch another one ever again. Jaguar dealers just rip you off as well. Worse the car locked in a low gear as I entered a motorway and I couldn’t stop the car or change gear. MY LAST JAG. We were lucky not to die in this case. Fortunately, I managed to stop with both feet on the brake pedal which caused the engine to stall the car after a 2 K wild ride. Also a good one "It doesn't have Apple Carplay? Dealbreaker!" (so if the car is perfect in all other aspects, they won't buy it, cause they don't want to get another smartphone?) It's pure insanity. It seems like a lot of folks nowadays are little, entitled bitches always trying to find the flaw in everything so that they can pretend to be outraged. It's like finding the perfect fitting pair of jeans and not buying it because you don't like the colour of the buttons (which you could just replace with buttons you like if they're so important to you...) I had one of these as a run around while my Pre face lift XF was in for a service. I wasn’t that impressed with the car, felt like I could have been sat in either a BMW or Audi, it didn’t have that Jaaaag feel to the interior. Also the 8 speed box felt like it would hunt for the correct gear at times, and when braking it seemed to change down too early, thus putting it in the higher rev range which would in turn effect the braking more, so making the slowing down more jerky, unlike the 6 speed box on my XF which feels a lot more smoother. Was I sad to hand it back? Noooooo! I couldn’t wait to get back in my 10 year old XF.

Now jaguar has lost the bulges in the bonnet above the lights and they have just morphed into their German competitors, sharing many body features. Coming 26th out of 31 cars tested in their class for reliability in a Which? Survey indicted to me that you are better off buying German . There were many faults with my xf that still exist today, including the crap sat nav which is useless. You don't get an option for fastest route or the option to stay on motorways. I upgraded mine to the latest 2019 firmware and maps and it was still the same.

Just to share my personal experience? I had a 2014 Jaguar XF S luxury 3.0 diesel sedan. Worst car I’ve ever had. The Dunlop tyres that came with the car were under specced that the car lost traction easily on wet surface. I had to replace all four tyres at my own cost at the first service. But the most annoying part is the DPF. It’s the filter diesel cars equip to trap dirty diesel fume. Because I do suburban driving mainly, the filter gets clogged up very quickly. And when it’s full, the car restricts the engine output that the car can only travel at a maximum 40 km/ hour and would take a minute to even reach that. That happened to me way too many times during peak hours. Imagine the dirty stares I had to endure from my fellow road users. Of course the car can only be towed back to the dealership to get fixed and that usually took a week or so. Just another interruption in life I don’t need. Given the car was purchased new and was still under warranty, the filter got replaced after 3 of those horrible events within a period of 6 months. And the solution... The dealership advised me to take the car for a long drive on freeway every week to burn off the rubbish trapped in the filter. What a ridiculous recommendation. Other people walk their dogs and I had to find time to “walk” my jaguar. Needless to say, I put the car on the market within 1.5 years of owning it and lost more than half of my money. Guess what, I had to replace both rear tyres again to get the car roadworthy. What kind of car requires tyre changes every 15000km. I’m not even a traffic light racer type. Still I’m happy to cut the loss by getting rid of this nightmare. I bought my wife a Mercedes S350 which is a diesel V6. We’ve had it for a year and still doing the suburban driving, never had that DPF problem. As for me, I’m driving my wife’s 2012 Mercedes E350 Estate. It’s older than the Jaguar XF but it’s so much better in terms of build quality, reliability and ride experience. I would never trust a Jaguar or Land Rover.

I've had similar issues on my xj tdvi but perhaps you should not of bought a diesel just to do city or local driving I get the od dpf full see handbook alarm every 3 or 4 months I just stay in 3rd or 4th at 70mph for 20 mins and it clears it out just fine but I do 20k miles a year mainly motorway

@@Sophiechic I have a Mercedes S350 which is a diesel and built in the same year as the Jag. I drive the car in the way. It never had the DPF issue. In my opinion, the problem lies with Jag, not diesel cars.

This is a diesel problem only. Jag has nothing to do with it. I've had the same problems on my 2,7l diesel jag, 2006 toyota avensis 2.2L diesel, even on an audi. My friend recently had this on his diesel subaru, again, all because we mostly did city driving and diesels don't like that too much. This also might indicate a bigger problem. Diesels create particles-yes, but the standart issued DPF should easily handle those. If it doesn't it means the engine is producing more of those particles than was expected. Might be a fuel problem, fuel filter, injectors, maybe even EGR valves. Either way what the dealers recommended was correct. A couple times a month just take it for a longer ride, an hour would be just fine to burn everything in the DPF. And if you are somewhere so deep inside the city it's a bother for you - dont buy a diesel .

Gloss piano black veneer, not plastic Same as a real piano, it is Tulipwood veneer 0.6mm thick stained black then has gloss lacquer applied. Jaguar does not use plastic fake veneers!

It looks dated compared to its rivals and the road noise was notable over other cars. Jaguar will get left behind.

There's somebody who works near me who gets a new XF every six months. I kid you not. Not immediately either, as today was the first time I saw their 66-plate XF in blue.

I kind of like it, but I would even more so if the cabin was more plush. You're forking out over £30K in the end, though it is a Jaguar, and it's a big, spacious car with a full aluminium body shell. You'd probably look rather pleased with yourself cruising down the motorway in one.

Which one/s between the Jaguar XF, Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Volvo S90 diesels is/are more quiet inside and which one/s feels/feel more solid (shutting the doors, etc)? So which one/s has/have better build quality in general? For similar price, would you choose the Audi A6 40 TDI 2.0L/4cyl 204 hp (FWD), the BMW 520d 2.0L/4cyl 190 hp (RWD), the Volvo S90 D4 Inscription 2.0L/4cyl 190hp (FWD/AWD), [or for less money the S90 D4 Momentum 2.0L/4cyl 190hp (FWD)], or the Jaguar XF 3.0 TDV6 3.0L/6cyl 300 hp (RWD)?

I sold my S Type to my cousin for less than $5k. Wow was I stupid.. I live in LA so you can buy S Type Jaguars for less than $8k all day long. He lives in rural Illinoise he's been offered $12,000 for my 15 year old car. I sold it to buy my ,2012 XF Supercharged V8 Portfolio. I love it. The new cars are a cheap Tata will get a Jaguar badge on it. The 2nd generation is the best looking of all.
