Just wanted to say thank you. I had a dashboard like a Christmas tree, no parking break and heavy steering and stuck in restricted mode. I thought this would be a huge bill and then I found this. One bolt on the left had completely broken off and the one above on the left and the one on the right just sheared as soon as I touched them. I would say an hour later and about one pound later, all done and nothing wrong after a re-set!!! Thank you so much from Maidstone, Kent in England

Brilliant video. I am about to tackle an x350 with electrical and epb faults in Dublin too. These are the first places in engine bay I will be checking.

Thanks for this! Also having the same issue, how did you have the clearance to drill a new hole? Did you need to remove the headlight unit or did you use a small 90 degree drill? My drill bit itself has no clearance

I just used a long bit and drilled at an angle.

Excellent video thanks - but how did you get a drill into the tight spaces to drill the new mounting holes? Thx

I recall just going in at a slight angel 30 degrees approx, where I was using a regular handheld drill and regular steel drill bit.

What metal did you use for the new earthing points? As you know, if you use the wrong metal, other parts of the car will corrode like hell as the original metal acts as a sacrificial anode.

Of the 24+ earth points throughout the car; the studs, washers, nuts and electrical connectors, etc., are made out of a variety of metals. These ones are more exposed to the elements therefore when water comes into play different metals over the longterm can be problematic, hence why the original studs failed in the first place. I'm not concerned with remote connectors failing based the the choice of the bolts and washer that I used at that localised point, although I do recall choosing something other than copper.

I know this is a long shot but have you had any issues with the immobilizer? I've got 3 keys but non are being recognized by the ECU. No work been done to the car except it had been parked up for over a year. Any help will be much appropriated. No communication via EOBD .

No issues with the Jag however, a friend had a car parked up for a year on a farm and had issues with an immobiliser. When I traced the wires back from the ignition key to the ECU the exposed wires under the bonnet/hood were chewed by rodents :). Not likely your issue but if the battery is fine it's worth checking the wiring. If your car was left idle for over a year the battery is the likely issue as they can lose charge and become un-chargeable and there won't be enough charge to spin the steering lock motor. Did you try jump starting it?

Thank you thank you thank you. I’m having these issues, even the garage where it went and went through every wire with a fine tooth comb couldn’t sort out the error messages. I thought it might be the earth points you mentioned but wasn’t sure, they did snap off when I tried to unscrew them. I tried rerouting them to other convenient points, I didn’t want to drill holes, but I think that I need to reexamine this method and probably make sure that they are earthing properly. The joys of an aluminium body shell.

I’m having battery charging issues on my 06 X350. The battery light is on and it has shown gear box fault (although not currently). My earth points in front “appear” fine. Are there points in the boot near the battery and/or connect to the battery that should be checked. Someone suggested the black fuse box next to my battery, as well as the battery terminal cables (I guess they’re also referred to as straps?). My alternator is newer, so I don’t assume it’s that.. Any advice greatly appreciated!

There's about 27 earth points in the X350. The ones inside the car don't usually cause problems as they are not exposed to the elements. How old is your battery and what voltage does it read before and after running? Batteries can become very troublesum if they lose their charge and are left in a low level state. Regarding the gearbox fault, it's hard to pinpoint the exact issue, however, after 100K the oil really needs to be changed despite the manufacturers lifetime seal. Low levels of gearbox oil can cause big problems, especially noticeable when driving on bumpy roads. The gearbox sump is quite fragile as it is only made of plastic and even a small leak over time can result in faults. This happened to me and hence having the car up on blocks in this video. My car wouldn't shift automatically through gears and it got stuck in a high gear, which got me home. I replaced the sump and refilled the oil with great difficulty, as I had to inject the oil with a seringe into the inlet at the side of the gearbox. Luckily all the errors went and started shifting properly. I haven't had issues since.

Whatch your video did the same on my 2003 faults went out thanks , want to replace the spark plugs don’t know hoe easy that is Any thoughts .
@PatrickSimons79

If the engine is running fine I would leave them as is. You would be surprised how long spark plugs will last. If you change them be very careful putting in the new ones so that they don't get miss threaded. Use a hosepipe to hold the new plug and start the initial threading. If the screw thread is miss-aligned it will slip as you turn the hosepipe. Have a look at this tip video kzitem.info/news/bejne/yqam0oCBf6uToaw
