I've been involved in Athletics since the age of 10. So over 50 years during which I've competed nationally and internationally and also Coached. This situation is simple: Jakob is making statements of intent. He wants to achieve the status of being "the top runner of all time" etc statements. He even lists what he thinks his body is best at. That's why he has listed events he hasn't even competed in... YET. Half marathon, 10,000m etc. So, he will either achieve those goals/objectives... or he won't. That is how he wants to be judged. It's not based on what others are attempting to do. But Josh Kerr is the one running his mouth in trash talk. Attempting to play the sports psych "game" that really only is an attempt to prop up their own insecurities. Oh, it can work on weaker minded runners. I used it myself: getting into the heads of some runners can be easy if you know what their fears are. LOL You know... asking if they are ok because it looks as if they are limping. Is their ankle ok (if you know they have had ankle problems or cramping problems etc) Offering them help or suggestions about getting massaged or whatever. Believe me, it works. Their Coaches would often freak out if we were warming up in the same area. "Ignore him. Don't listen to him. Tell him to go away" LOL. Asking them if they feel tired and telling them they look gaunt: perhaps they need more energy bars cause they look to get through this semi! Perhaps they need more sleep? LOL. The reality is that Track athletics is really two phased. There are World Record attempts backed by numerous pacemakers and sometimes "guiding lights", all aimed at creating the best conditions/situations to run the fastest times to break the world records. Guys like Jakob thrive on these. Then there are Championship events, the pinnacle of which is the Olympics, where TIMES DON'T MATTER: the winning (Gold) is everything. So, NO pacesetters, No light guides, plus also a need to get through often, Heats, Quarters, Semis, then the Final. This is taylor-made for the "sitter" type of runner. One who has managed to get to the final but never "pushes the pace" and waits for the last lap (or last 200m) This is what best suits runners like Josh Kerr. Jakob generally lacks the explosive speed of an 800m runner so, when in a slower race, he is heavily disadvantaged. This is why he has no real choice and must either hope some suicidal runner takes the lead and ensures a very fast pace that will blunt the 800m runners, or take the lead himself. But that, of course, means that he is now the sacrificial goat for the "sitters" to take advantage of. We have already seen this happen a couple of times with Jacob in Championship events, where he has been "run down" in the finishing straight, normally in the last 50 meters. These Olympics will be very, very, interesting.
@josephgonzalez_

I don’t agree it’s Kerr driving the trash talk - it’s Kerr reacting to an arrogant show-boating Ingebrigtsen who is basically saying “you ain’t seen nothing yet - I’m beating the world at my weaker events”. Yeah, I think a few Kenyans might be ready to put him right on that.

Andreas Almgren is a 1500m / 5000m runner, he crushed the Swedish record in his 10k debut by 30 seconds. Then he ran the half mararhon in his debut and run in 59:22... Crushing the swedish record with 2min(!), a few seconds from the EU record. Now he's aiming for sub 27min in the 10k in a US race. He said with a better pacing and leas wind he could have got sub 59. Jacob would obviously beaten Almgren, so he would sure be close to the world record already. Almgren currently have the swedish recors in 1500m, 3000m, 5000m, 10k, 21k (and all time 3rd 800m from his early days...)

But why would anyone put down a Non-Championship event like the half-marathon? He then needs to ask his father to coach him again and promise to listen to him. Until he is able to forgive himself he wont be breaking any more records. His brothers need to support him and also stop slagging off their dad. It is no surprise he is mentally breaking down with so much confusion in his personal life. Oh, and last, stop with the weird tattoos, they are a stain on his body and it makes people think he is uneducated and mentally ill.
