Title: জলজ জীববৈচিত্র্য সংরক্ষণ | Aquatic Biodiversity Conservation
The Padma, Meghna, and Jamuna rivers flow through this country, formed by the confluence of countless small streams from the Himalayas.
During the monsoon season, these rivers become filled with water.
From these full rivers, many small rivers emerge, spreading like veins throughout the entire country.
Some rivers change their course and create baor.
There are several haors covering a large area in the northeastern part of the country.
Inside the haors are numerous beels.
Continuous monsoon rains overflow the rivers, turning the haors and beels into seas.
Therefore, Bangladesh has developed a diverse aquatic ecosystem such as rivers, haors, baors, beels, estuaries, and seas.
One of the components of these water bodies is aquatic plants, which use sunlight efficiently in the aquatic ecosystem to convert inorganic materials into energy to sustain them and support other organisms.
As a result, invertebrates like snails, oysters, and crabs are found in abundance in aquatic environments.
These animals roam among the aquatic plants.
Various fish species depend on these invertebrates for survival.
The haors of this country are vital for fish.
The clear waters of the haors with batasio, pool barb, and red helen look amazing.
Haors serve as breeding grounds for different native fish species.
During the monsoon season, native fish lay eggs in the waters of haors.
When the eggs hatch and the fish mature, they spread to different parts of the country through rivers.
Besides fish, various vertebrate species can be seen.
Amphibians of various species are found in all the wetlands of this country.
Diverse reptiles are an integral part of aquatic life.
Several species of snakes, monitor lizards, and turtles are found in the water bodies of freshwater.
Water birds occupy a large part of aquatic biodiversity.
In winter, a large number of migratory birds migrate to this country's haors, beels, and rivers in search of food and safe shelter.
Among them, the number of ducks is high.
Ruddy Shelduck, Common Shelduck, Whistling Ducks, and Pochard are notable among the migratory ducks in Bangladesh.
Our native wild ducks are seen among them.
