The World Health Organization reports that 11 million people worldwide suffer from severe burns annually, with 200,000 fatalities. In Nepal alone, the Department of Health Services recorded over 76,000 burn injuries last year. These incidents often result from accidents, violence, and self-immolation. Limited access to healthcare prevents timely treatment for those injured in such events. Moreover, burn victims typically require lifelong and costly medical care. This Samakon dialogue focuses on the ‘Increasing prevalence of burn injuries and the challenges in accessing expensive treatment’.
