Jamaica is an English Country Dance which first appeared in Playford's Dancing Master of 1670. This version was interpreted by Tom Cook. It is a 4 couple dance with couples 3 and 4 improper.
There is also a duple minor dance, derived from the same cryptic comments in Playford, done by Cecil Sharp.
The animation plays normally at 107 counts per minute, but the first time through the set the dance is slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
