Society has that misconception indeed, that when persons migrate to the U.S, Europe or U.K, we're making money which is not the case. I'm here in China teaching for 5 years and I've gotten backlash about it because on several occasions, persons have asked me for money and I addressed them that I don't have it like that to help them. In one instance a young lady I went to church with, she asked me for help and she said the most vile things to me just because I said I don't have at the moment to help her. I do appreciate you sharing this Derron. It'll be an eye opener for many who don't understand.

Excellent video. Thank you. You appear to be an excellent nurse. Keep up the good work. Jamaica tend sto lose the good professionals to other countries. I have witnessed some very low quality of care when I take family members to hospitals in Jamaica, many of the doctors and nurses act as if they don’t care and they are the center of the universe (unbelievable) In many countries, staff is held more accountable for the quality of patient care.

Facts! The compensation is better, but the grass is definitely not greener. Culture shock! lots of racism, lack of community, lack of support, slavery mentality with superiors because you are a minority (black and an immigrant). The healthcare system is a BUSINESS, you have to protect your License at all cost. Your value and worth in nursing in the US is far more when you have experience and when you pursue graduate and post grad degrees here such as a MSN, DNP, PhD. It's also much easier to move up the ladder as an RN with specialities. Kudos to you. Definitely look into becoming certified as a Dialysis nurse, if you aren't already Derron. I definitely left the bedside after a few years here! It's slavery and got burned out! Now I'm a Clinical Professor, Simulation expert and Certified Nurse Educator, the pay is far more than the bedside with little to no stress! Always let your degree work for you. Options are here!

Hey bro, nice video enlightening the reality of working as a nurse abroad. Who feels it knows it. I agree the compensation is much better and the resources are here but it's a different energy from working back home. I am privileged to work in a small facility, but from time to time things get crazy hectic . The roles and responsibilities here are much more than we do back home. Sometimes we don't realize and appreciate what we have until we lose it. I'm still grateful we were able to migrate and have a different experience.

Real vid man! Bwoy I tell u. My experience working here in America has made me realize that a lot of restructuring needs to be done in Jamaica where the labor force is concerned as the more nonchalant approach to work in both the public and private sectors- government especially- contributes greatly to inefficiency which results in the retardading of productivity as well as poor revenue generation and management. Yes there is significant inequity where the distribution of wealth and compensation for labor are concerned in Jamaica but I do believe that a lot of money is wasted paying persons who aren't deserving of those wages or compensating positions which arent relevant. U mentioned how different the approach to work is here in America and how the general pace also differs. That's so true. One reason for that is the fact is that people know they can't just slack off on the job and still expect to be compensated like others who take work more seriously or even remain in that posotion. U cant just decide to come to work an hour late everyday or call out every other few days as ur wages are specifically monitored and calculated here in the states based on ur presence at work versus in Jamaica where u can call out any number of day or show up late and still get paid ur full wages at the end of the month- especially when working in the public sector- as most workplaces havent a very keen monitoring system set in place. Persons up and leave work in Jamaica for hours taking care of their personal business negatively influencing the workflow and there is little to no accountability. U cant try that here as the moment u leave the compound u have to badge out and once u get back u have to badge in again or u will be considered absent. Yes the liberties we enjoy in Jamaica are good but life isnt always about what's pleasing to us. As the saying goes "u want good; u nose affi run!" I dont think the more stringent expectations here in the states are at all an injustice. I believe that if we decide to accept a job we ought to put in 100 percent while at work as that contributes to the overall efficiency, productivity and eventual sustained growth of the revenue pool for that business- the very same revenue pool from which we will be getting compensated. A lot of positions in Jamaica need to be made redundant and that money being paid out reallocated to others who are more serious aboht work or to other areas for which greater compensation is needed. Yes we aren't to be treated unjustly being overburdened on the job but should we consider it justice to not be putting in the relevant labour while expecting full compensation?

Wow, all I can see is wow I came across your video just now and I watched it to the end. You have done such an awesome job in this video explaining it is very difficult. I have been in the nursing field for over 42 years and I started as a CNA, it has gotten very difficult over the years. My son is a dialysis technician and he’s now doing his RN. I will definitely share your video and I did subscribe looking forward for more.

I dont work in nursing, i work in aerospace industry making jet engine parts for military and commercial airlines and i understand when you talk about the lack of community, i just spoke to one of my coworkers about another individual and was told he retired 2months ago. No good byes, no nice to know you, just gone so. We make good money too but boy the quality of life sucks, i like what i do, i always loved aviation but the environment can be stressful sometimes because we cant afford to make mistakes. the work life balance is missing in my life but i am trying to get it back into alignment because i do acknowledge that this is not sustainable. Keep doing what you are doing, i think your channel will grow because you are honest and you dont flex like some others.

It all depends on where you end up working. There are many different avenues, just find one that works for you.

Don't try Canada, you will regret it. My mom was sick and went to the hospital and they are no AIDS OR CNA. Nurses do everything even feed the patients. I was shocked, my mom was in filth, the food was on the table cold no one to feed her, she could not feed herself. When I asked the nurse for wipes to clean her up, she showed me a roll of paper towel and say I have to wet it at the sink and she gave me soap

Facts. Everything he said is reality. When I first arrived in the USA over a decade ago I thought it would be very easy but I work twice as hard than when I was in Jamaica. At the end of the day though if you willing to work hard and make smart decisions you will make it here.
