That was less about moving the story line along and making the viewers comfortable with accepting the new cast and characters. Spock was the only one (well and Sarek) that they chose to develop and provide an ongoing narrative.

Thanks for uploading, My how Hollywood has changed. The scenes from Relics look like they were being filmed inside a garage. TV Shows were more imaginative then than they are now. Now its all crappy ass "reality" TV. I miss those days of being able to turn on a tv and find something interesting to watch. Now TV is just an indoctrination tool.

Met James Doohan twice. Talkitive, amicable, AND stormed the beaches at Normandy. Nice man, great actor. I have been re-watching "The Animated Series" recently, and Jimmy's voice acting and accents are always top notch.

@lamelama22

GESSO217 out of universe reason is that generations was supposed to be Kirk / Spock / McCoy, & Scotty was already lost by this point; but Nimoy/Kelley wouldn’t do it b/c the parts were basically cameos & not enough of their character personalities involved. Since Moore/Braga were in charge by this point, rather than negotiate or re-write the script a little bit, they told Nimoy & Kelley to go to hell, and so McCoy became Chekhov & Spock became Scotty; with the lines unchanged other than the names (& Scotty took one of McCoy’s lines). Hence Checkov playing doctor & even doing McCoy’s mannerisms. Also, in an interview, they said they were aware of Scotty thinking Kirk was alive from Relics & they didn’t care, b/c the studio wanted a TOS cameo, & who cares if things make sense / fans are dumb. & so began the Braga/Moore Star Trek slide, progressively getting worse until Enterprise was cancelled.

I met him at an autograph signing in 1987, in Columbus Ohio. I had his book, and he signed it and gave me an 8x10 of himself. He was every bit the cool gentleman I saw him as in TOS since my childhood, only a few years after it first aired. Michelle Nichols and either Walter Koenig or George Takei also were there. Sadly, I was on my dinner break from the movie theater behind the mall and had barely time to see even one of them, but I HAD to meet Scotty.... It was priceless!
