One of the most underrated Pop/rock drummers to have a continuous career playing...He was the drummer for the first band Sonny Geraci fronted-The Outsiders. kzitem.info/news/bejne/p2eP2IuCppOcqHY Don't let the short hair and clean shaven face fool you... Fox wasn't long out of high school when the song at the link was recorded since he left them again-he played for another iteration called "The Starfires" when he definitely was in high school- late summer or early fall to go to school I think and met this guy named Joe Walsh. Walsh ended up joining The James Gang in 1968 when Glenn Schwartz left. Not positive on this since it's been 54 years, but I think his last gig with The Outsiders was at a local battle of the bands in Akron in August of 1966.

Jim Fox is such a rudimentary drummer. I mean that in the most technical sense. He's not just jamming. He has trained himself in so many incredible foundational skills (Snare Drummer's Practise Rudiments is the exact name of the book where these come from. Yes, practice with an S) . He is so fluid with his fills and his funky beats, but put him up against a metronome. Real drummers are fascinated with what he does. He was still fantastic in the James Gang post Walsh as well. Check out the instrumental James Gang song Pick Up The Pizzas if you need proof. Even without Walsh, that song keeps you hooked and there's no vocals. I believe the late great Dominic Troiano was the guitarist during that version of the James Gang. Joe picked Dominic to replace him. Jim Fox is so solid. I was in a James Gang cover band just after high school and I just got a text from the guy who played drums for me 20 years ago in that band saying he saw the James Gang in the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert (Jim was Taylor's favorite drummer) and wants to play again. I'm a massive Joe Walsh fan and he learned to love Jim Fox from the way he had to listen to what he did in order to get it right. You know if you are looking for a drummer and they know who Jim Fox is, then they will be funky, liberal with their fills, be showcased just by showing up, and stay in the pocket the entire time.
